Well done that lady! I just hope she doesn't become a victim of gang revenge.

A lone woman armed with a whistle and enormous courage has set herself the task of defending unsuspecting tourists from the pickpockets who plague Barcelona.
Eliana Guerrero became so incensed by the way groups of thieves were able to freely roam the city's underground network that she now patrols the metro on her own.
She gives loud blasts on her whistle whenever she sees the thieves, who operate mostly in a dozen city centre stations including the Sagrada Familia and Placa Catalunya, and hands out flyers warning about the criminals.

Truly humbling to hear of a citizen who puts the welfare of others above her own safety and calls on the authorities to get their act together. She deserves a medal and the support of those around her.

A brave public spirited lady, just hope she steers clear of trouble but must admit I fear very much for her safety.
Another instance were the law is a complete ass in Spain, repeatedly turning these thieves loose again to carry on robbing ppl. as normal.

surely more cost effective to put a stop to it (as also bad for tourism) than to provide a minder for this lady

Police arrest a pickpocket and take him down to the station for questioning....
1st Officer: He's guilty, fine him 200€.
2nd Officer: Prisoner says he hasn't got any money on him sir.
1st Officer: Well turn him loose in the crowd for a couple of hours until he raises enough.
