The high potassium content of bananas helps counteract the effect of any sodium consumed, in turn helping to reduce the blood pressure by about 10% for anyone eating 2 a day.

Now that is interesting. I'm not keen on bananas but maybe I'll force myself..

I'm curious to know if anyone thinks the bananas from the canaries are better than those shipped from further afield? They seem to have a creamier texture to me but they are usually more expensive than the well travelled ones.
I was always led to believe that slightly unripe bananas were good for preventing stomach acid. No idea where I heard that one.

Definitely had to up our salt intake since living in Spain. All food tasted horribly salty when we first arrive. Found it impossible to get canned food without salt (tomatoes sweetcorn etc). I got bad leg cramps in the summer at first but the potassium in bananas supposedly helps with that too. Must be a super food!

As far as bed cramp in your legs I am sure that I heard on here to place a bar of soap in the bed stops this.
I have done this over 12 months ago and all I can say is "it worked for me"

I agree that Canarian bananas normally do taste much better than others which I presume is why usually they are slightly more expensive.

Having said that,I just bought some Fyffe Columbian bananas yesterday and they come pretty close.

Since I read that article,I've taken to eating a few more myself.

Soap in the bed, sounds like an old wives tale Stuart, but never mind if it works don't knock it.

We do need to eat more salt when it's very hot though, as we lose so much in perspiration. If you stick to the British RDA of 6g during heatwaves like we've just had in Southern Spain, you can end up with muscle cramps. (I think the RDA in Spain is 8.5g now, it used to be higher.)
Eat bananas! They contain Folic acid; stops muscle cramps!

the "only eating fruit" statement is usually a coverup for pigging out on other things, using the fruit as a cover.

like all diets, a good balanced diet is essential, no short sharp shocks but a gradual reduction in the calories taken in with a responding exercise regime of calories used. So long as there is a reasonable difference in favour of the second then there will be weight loss.

I managed 2 stone loss over 6 months since moving to Spain - Sun, Sea and Sangria having nothing to do with it. Sensible Diet and Daily Exercise has.

.
Well said and spot on!

We prefer them if we can get them. Smaller and with a slightly different texture and taste.
