Ayamonte zoo.
I decided to have a look in the zoo when I was along that end of town this morning. Who looks after these animals and where would it be best to report the horrendous condition of the white tiger ? The poor thing is so emaciated and has an open wound on its foot plus can barely walk. No way should animals be allowed to live in the conditions of that zoo.

Yes I remember the thread but it does not tell me anything I want to know after my first visit to the park today, unless I missed something in it.
I have added images to my gallery. If you are easily upset by the condition of animals I advise you do not look.

Re: Ayamonte zoo.
It was on TV recently that they had no money to feed the animals in Jerez zoo because the council is €30m in debt, and the staff at the aquarium in Almuñecar haven't been paid for months. They were relying on donations. It's tragic when innocent creatures become victims of the economic crisis.
Can you not report the Ayamonte zoo to SEPRONA? Or raise it with PACMA, the animal rights party?

SEPRONA, the animal welfare department of the Guardia Civil. You can make a denuncia and they will have to investigate.

Re: Ayamonte zoo.
The last Mayor resisted the closure some years ago when a campaign was mounted by the soft animal loving Brits and some improvements were made and some animals removed. Of course not enough was done and the Mayor has changed so this one might not fight as hard but I think if the campaign was led by Spanish nationals it might succeed now. In the meantime the denunciation via Seprona might stir their buts.

Re: Ayamonte zoo.
After lots of routing around, emailing here there and anywhere, I have discovered the tiger belongs to Sevilla Zoo, been in contact with them and have now sent a photo of the state of the current tiger. If I read the e mail right they have had a problem with a tiger they gave to Ayamonte before.
I hope this is progress and help will now be given to the poor animal.

The white tiger and the bear were removed this morning. There is now a normal tiger in the enclosure and 2 smaller bears in the bear enclosure.

Well done wench
I hope these animals are treated better.
Are these new additions or the same ones that were there a couple of years ago?

Re: Ayamonte zoo.
Having never been in the zoo prior to my original post I have no idea what used to be in there Fred. The zoo has had troubles since at least 2003 with conditons of both enclosures and animals.
Zoo Check have taken my info and images on board and wish to use them in their ongoing quest for better animals conditions here in Spain. I have some reading from them to do today.
I am hoping for information on whether the tiger was sick or just starving and where it is now. The lions look well fed, the bear sick/bored I don't know. If it also belonged to Sevilla Zoo then they maybe changed it for the 2smaller ones as well. They were pretty quick of their mark the last time they had a complaint about the condition of an animal.

Well done you! This proves that if people do something constructive instead of just sitting round complaining about how awful things are, they can sometimes make a change for the better.

Re: Ayamonte zoo.
Visited zoo yesterday on a whim and the white tiger is in the enclosure ! he looked a little more mobile and as if the sores had been attended. I took a photo or 2 and walked round the bears then back and he was gone ! the normal tiger was back. I wondered if I had been seeing things lol but I had my sister with me. They obviously have pens out of sight, I have not worked out the layout yet. I am still in touch with the animal sanctury and Zoo Check. I am still hoping for info from local source and will be contacting Sevilla Zoo again.
