Thanks to everyone for their advice. I think that I will go and visit a Gestor when I am next out in spain and see what they say. Failing being able to find a legal way (a good nights sleep is important to me!)then I shall just have to revert to my initial plan of spending just under 6 months a year in spain . It does seem crazy that it is so difficult though... I would have thought that Spain would welcome people who do not want to take employment, have a substantial income and are looking to bring capital into the country. I would even be happy to pay privately for a GP and my medication but dont want to risk massive hospital bills in the even of an emergeny.
Rather annoying as well when the Spanish can gain immediate access to the UKs NHS... (or i could take up the advice that I have received from several expats to invest in their "very profitable" bars:eek::rofl:) I think you will find the Spanish in the UK only have the same level of NHS as you would get here in Spain. having recently had a Brit couple try to sell me a house for €200k they have advertised at €175k I am sure we can come up with many ways of helping you to reduce the weight of your bulging pockets  but joking aside, if you can get here it is a nice place, much better than France which is sadly full of Frenchmen. :( |
Re: Autonimo
Have you actually checked out private insurance? It's worth investigating a few companies.
My husband's got fibromyalgia and has investigated private insurance, although hopefully he'll get state cover:fingerscrossed:. He's been told that pre-existing conditions don't mean you can't claim anything. They said that if you've been on the same medication for a certain period, with no problems, then you're covered for flare-ups. We were very pleasantly surprised. And if you have a policy that covers medication and you need regular drugs, you'll get them paid for. The only problem real is if your conditions starts or changes shortly before you take out the insurance. As others have said, things changed this summer and now they're really tightening up on the self-employed. You really do have to produce monthly proof of income nowadays or they'll shut you down, fine you, and remove your cover. The police in Fuerteventura really gave me the third degree when I registered as a resident. How long have you been in business (I was self-employed in France - long story!)? How much income? How many clients? What services? ... |
