Any expats in ibiza on here?
I moved here 2 months ago with the hubby, not particularly for the club scene, just a more chilled out lifestyle and weather that doesn't make you feel depressed when you get up in the morning!
Apparently there are thousands of Brits living here so just wondered if any of them read this forum, perhaps you could share some tips or say hello...

hello 'hello kittty' - I used to live in Ibiza, was there for 12 years, now live in Chiclana, Andalucia. You have moved to a fantastic, welcoming and magical island, I hope you have as good a time as I did, when I was there.

Hi to you both and welcome to BE forum,
Now Ibiza sounds really nice, I know there are lots of people on here who live or have lived on the Islands, Rugbymatt for one knows a lot about them...I unfortunately know nothing about them having never visited ...I just wanted to extend a welcome...we always love pictures and stories of your adventures so please keep us updated on your progress.
Adeibiza...9 years on the island you must be the font of all knowledge...are you going to stay with BE forum now you have found it..or are you one of the quiet watchers..your knowledge of the Island could be very useful to some folk....if you have the time...
Nice to meet you both...BB

Thanks everyone for your warm and welcoming replies!
Adeibiza, 9 years wow you must really be the expert! Are you a DJ? I've been living in San An by the port for 2 months but tomorrow we are moving across the bay, so the big pack/unpack starts again!
Trying to learn Spanish - didn't know a single word when I arrived! Now I can understand the gist of things if they are written down, and can speak a few very basic things. I have to admit I have been a bit lazy so far and not tried as hard as I should have done though - its easy to be lazy in San An cos everyone speaks English! I do want to learn though - just need discipline!

We're not particularly into clubbing much either - in fact I'm ashamed to say we still haven't got round to even going to one club yet!
We keep meaning to but the time's flown by!
Just got back after popping back to the uk for a few days, and its lovely to wake up to hot, sunny weather again! I had started to take the nice weather for granted but there's nothing like a short spell of british "summer" weather to make you realise how lovely it is here

wait until november or so and the tourists have gone and go to pacha - its my favourite club only because theres so many rooms and terraces and different styles of music - my favourite is the funky room run by vaughan - you get to hear a lot of motown etc

Hi - I've lived in Ibza for the last three years although I'm on the other side of the island in the country near Sta Eulalia. It's one of the silly quirks of the island is that although it's so small you'll find people won't go from Ibiza Town to San An and vice versa. (There's a bit of snobbery involved
)
By the way, I wouldn't follow the last piece of advice too closely. Yes, Pacha is good in the winter when the tourists are away. (Personally, I prefer the island when there aren't any tourists - the last direct flight to the UK is in October and that's it until April
) Anyway, Pacha's only open at weekends and the nights before fiestas - great to live in a place where it's the same word for "party" and "bank holiday". But it's only the main room at Pacha that's open except for Carnival and New Year. The superclubs in Ibiza generally have several "rooms" or "dance floors", Pacha has five.
So the point is, if you go to Pacha in November the Funky Room won't be open. The other thing that's worth knowing is that although some places, such as restaurants, run earlier in the winter, Pacha doesn't. If you get there at 2am and think it's dead, that's because nobody gets there for at least another hour.

but yes i liken it to when i lived in london - rather like cabs, people in north london couldnt cross water (ie crossing the thames)

there is for some reason a north south divide - a bit ridiculous when you consider the distances involved - but its there
if you live near sta eul then you're not going to be far from me

I agree about San An being dead in the winter, but at least you can get somewhere to park! But I know people in San An who don't even go to Ibiza in the winter.
So where do you live. I'm off the old Ibiza-Sta Eulalia Road, sometimes called Carpenter's Row cos there's a load of carpenterias there...

Very interesting to read about all the east side/west side island politics!
I have heard about 'san an snobbery' but we lived there for 2 months and loved it - it's a shame its reputation is tainted by the west end. Now we live in the bay near port d'es torrent.
Looking forward to seeing the different side of ibiza in winter, although I can imagine some of the touristy areas looking like a ghost town!

its funny how the island has its own north/south divide
i dont think its really snobbery - its just thats the way its happened because in the winter the north comes into its own - i always say that you can draw a line alongside the san an to ibiza road
in the summer, ibiza town, mainly san an, pdb etc get all the attention and everyone who lives in the north (ie above san rafael) is quite happy about that - in the winter everyone meets up, catches up - its a different atmosphere
you only have to go to can curune, san carlos or santa gertrudis, las dalias, san juan or benirras in the winter to see a completely different side of the island to the summer

What happens to all the super-touristy areas like the west end in San An, and around playa d'en bossa? Is the whole place just boarded up and dead or do you still find a bit of activity there?
At the moment we can hear the bingo and pub quiz from the hotel next door every night, so that's one thing we won't miss when the season changes!
