Anyone on here featured on Place in Sun type programmes

Just wondered if anyone on the forum featured on any of these 'place in the sun' or 'Living in Sun' type programmes or even 'no going back' we never find out what happened to them. There was a similar thread on Australia forum and a few had featured on 'Wanted down under' programme.
Personally I couldn't stand the thought of those cameras following you around all the time it must be stressful enough moving anyway, I suppose for no going back it is good advert for your business.

Well I think it must be actors as you think all the shows they do there would be one person on this site. ;)

BTW, I saw some of those Australia programmes. They gave the couples two days to make a choice whether to emigrate or not. I didnt beleive they gave them that short a time. Do you know?

Also, if you've read the australian ones, what happened to the Butcher who worked all hours only to discover in Aus he would have to work similar hours?

Did it work out for them? Or any of them?

I missed that one with the butcher there was a spanish one though (liviing in the sun)and I think he had to get a licence to sell sausages! Two days is not long to decide to emigrate perhaps they want a free holiday as if you were serious you would not go on a programme like that to help you make up your mind.

What peed me off was seeing one family on "holiday Swap" and then seeing the obnoxious wife on one of the relocation programmes. It was obvious the first time all she wanted was to be on tele - unfortunately it didnt show her in a good light and then the second time was even worse. Dont researchers research or are they desperate for people to do the shows?

Yes 'place in the sun' is the worst they always have to go home and think about it, just up for the free holiday!

Oh are you like me Helen - I watch the programme and say "They only want a free holiday, just watch they will go home to think about it" Do they honestly think we believe they are serious!

We actually applied to go on 'A Place in the Sun' but we were told they were doing the Carribean and as we wanted Spain they would get back to us. They never did!

The butcher was in Fuengarola If I'm not mistaken.
Maybe some people here have even been to the shop.

Friends of mine did one; home and away or something like that....choosing between Britain and South Africa. They were for real and were seriously considering it. The producers were pushing them to choose a property but they decided to do something totally different in the end.

Re: Anyone on here featured on Place in Sun type programmes

We only discovered Extremadura because of "A Place in the Sun!"
We had decided we wanted to move to Spain, but weren't really too sure where..........and then we saw the programme.
The region had everything we were looking for, so we came out 4 times in the year before our move, to have a good look around.

During that time, we bumped into the people who featured in the programme (!) and we have become very good friends.
We live about 30km away from them, and we all have the same opinion about life here - we don't want to live in each other's pockets, but it's great to know there's a fellow English speaker to call on in a time of need.

They've lived here for nearly 4 years now, and are totally integrated into their village and are obviously well loved within their community.

They say that their experience of the programme was OK, but they wouldn't do it again!
Some of the properties that were shown on the programme weren't actually for sale, and they were "advised" about what they should or shouldn't mention in their feedback about properties!!
From what they now know from Spanish friends in their village, there was a lot of "quick, you'll do, come and be on this programme" kind of attitude towards the local people.
They said the cameras being around was a drain, but they did really like Amanda Lamb and said she was a genuine person.

They didn't actually find any property they liked during the filming; they did that themselves in a subsequent visit - but they are very happy here! :)

My hubby likes Amanda Lamb - think that's the main reason we watch it. I don't mind though - Robson Green winked at me on tv when the trailer for the new series of Bright Lights was shown :p

Mine loves Amanda too. We were watching the prog one night and I innocently said I would move there. It was a village in France. Give him an inch and he always takes mile - so next I know he is investigating France on the internet and buying 'How to learn French' books etc. I laid down my rules regarding weather, housing, hospitals etc thinking I was putting him off and then said what about Italy. Yes you have guessed it he repeated his previous actions initially except as I had first hand experience of the hospital system in Italy he soon changed his mind and suggested Spain which had been his desore all the way along and I had been the negative one saying I could not leave UK.

Guess who is the one who will at the moment not even go back to UK for a visit?

Yeh it is me the one who took a lot of convincing.

 to all the Butcher quips!

I meant the Butcher in the Australia programe with Nadia Swallowedaahareema (you know the one).

Fancy being shown properties that arent really for sale! What a con! Pah, contempt for the programme....(says she who records all the relevant ones, to the cries in the house of....'you've seen this one') Hee. I like looking at the areas and the beaches etc

Actually I was at the Airport in Spain yesterday and I swear I saw one of the partipants of APITSun at the Airport. Either that or he was so familiar he is from my local newsagents/Grocery store/Library (you know the 'dont I know you from somewhere' scenario, except I didn't dare!).

I spent a number of years in spain and loved it the people climate etc. whereas in france it has been a struggle to say the least french people and spanish people have very different attitudes to life and people around them. and as it has been disscussed before the countries attract very different kinds of english people our mistake. what we failed to find out was that this region of france is the most argumentative going they love to fight argue etc. they dont even get on with themselves let alone the british and dutch that move here. And yesterday we went to spain for the day french side drab dull houses unpainted run down / spanish side lots of painted houses friendly people nice new roads etc. we are in a position to border jump and make compassions and they stand out.

Just checking!

I am not surprised that some of the houses are not for sale really as when we went last year it was difficult to find an agent to show you around unless you have a deposit. One agent even said we will have to pay him 100 euros to see some houses if we do not have a deposit and some agents charge for viewings even if you have a deposit. I just watch it to see all the scenery and lovely villages very sad really.

Hi Helen, a friend mentioned your message and its taken ages to re-register on the web site as I don't have a lot of time due to work. I will tell you about our experience on the prog a little later on in the week as I am due to do the "camera, lights & action" again tomorrow in hospital in Warrington. So bear with me Anne

My husband and I were watching "No going back" with a couple, Greg and Rosemary who started an esatate agents in Albox. My husband was so impressed by them as being honest and trustworthy and said he would definately buy from them. :)
When we were in Spain last year, we stayed for a week in Vera, and another week in Mojacar. During our first week we went to see Greg and Rosemay as we had been emailing them for info. They were really nice, but didn't have any property we were interested in at that time. Not that we could have done anything as house had only just gone on the market, :( but just wanted to introduce ourselves and look at their books. We asked how their two sons were doing, and they have both settled well and work in the building industry and very hard working. It seems to have been the making of them.
I check their website periodically and was surprised to see their shop listed. Couldn't make out if it was for sale, or lease or possibly franchise. But I really hope they are still doing ok! :D

Yes I saw that I tried to email and call them last year to look at properties but couldn't get any response. I saw on their website that their business seemed to be open to franchaise opportunities this was a while ago though. They seemed a nice genuine couple who you would buy from.

They did't go out there with intention of starting an estate agency as you might remember, but a place where artists could go and paint. Because of the hassle they had buying their property, they decided they could do better, and would deal honestly with people, as they had not been. They soon picked the language up, it was a case of being thrown in at the deep end. I take my hat off to them for having a go.

I didn't get an answer when I phoned, I think I sent a fax or an email in the end, can't remember exactly, but Rosemary phoned me back as soon as she got the message. :D
