Anyone having problems with Sky today?
#1
Just thought that I would ask. I am getting the 'no satellite signal being received' message - all day. I could understand it if it was pi$$ing down in Malaga - but it ain't. Anyone else having problems?

Several times but to no avail. Actually am having trouble with the 'phone too. Perhaps they are related.
What are those things that we used to use for entertainment? Ah yes, books - must sort some out.

Not noticed anything out of the ordinary today.....and all signal levels are where they should be.
Are you using the 12129 frequency as your default transponder frequency?
If so the S4C left that frequency a week or so ago, so that frequency is no longer carrying any data.
So if that is the setting you are using, the box will not be able to boot up...so use a different frequency - 12207 or 12051...

We also are having intemittent choppiness on many of the usually strong channels (as I said on another thread).
Someone mentioned solar flares. Apparently they are exceptionally strong right now??? Is this true or even a likely cause?

It is possible that solar activity can cause problems, but then it would affect a lot more people rather than just one or two people. And so far any the two of you on here are the only I have seen having ANY problems at all...which suggests issues with your own systems rather than a europe wide signal problem.
As far as I can see all channels are fine and dandy and have normal signal levels on both my big and small dish...for both weaker and stronger channels.
Ahough like i said on the other thead there were a few channels on one frequency that did have some issues a few days ago, but all seams to be normal again
"Apart from one one frequency - 12480 - a channel 4 owned one that carries irish c4, 4music and a few others, that I have seen pixelation for the last day or so at around 9pm. BUt this was OK last night."

Jon,
There's currently 3 threads running about SKY issues so, presumably, that's at least 3 people with the issue. But, I've just taken a quick glance and the number of people complaining on these threads is actually much higher.
We've been suffering with pixelation for a few days now and, interestingly, this gets better in the evening/night. So maybe it is to do with solar flares?

Yeah three threads all about the same issues... why can t we just use the same thread instread of starting yet another!
The Italian section has just one thread only when all posts are moved to that one...perhaps an idea for this section...one thread for all satellite / tv information and posts?
There is one thread (sakany123) about a poor installation or dish not aligned to the correct satellite or poor cabling and getting no signal at all...which is different to your and amideislas and Alectryon drop out of channels problems.
So thats only three people who are having reception issues on this Spain section out of the many satellite tv users in Spain.
In Alectryon case, solar activity would not result in the loss of ALL channels from all 4 satellites all day. It could be using a case of using 12129 as a DT frequency, and not an active frequency, which has been a common problem over the last 2 weeks.
And I have had no other contact from any other people about any issues about receptions. And there are no other people posting about issues on the many other Spanish and other countries (where reception can be worse that Spain) forums that i am on. If it were a "widespread" problem then i would expect many more people would be having problems. Also, I would not be able to recieve the channels that you are having problems with on your 2.4m dish on my 80cm dish.
So only two people (you and amideislas) are having issues which in my mind does not make it a universal widespread issue, and thus solar or atmospherics should be able to be ruled out. And thus all points to problems (dish movement, LNB, cabling) with your own individual systems rather than other solar issues.

As you have said many times, the first place(s) to look at are the sighting of the dish (the collector) and the LNB (the actual aerial).
I know a guy who came out here as a carpenter, then progressed to building, then for lack of business started installing sat systems. Not saying his work was poor, just that he sometimes had to go back 2 or 3 times to "tweak it" at no charge. Luckily he has now gone back to the UK.

Thanks for all of the information. All channels came back on at 19.45 yesterday but was not able to report it as Telefonica were working on the local exchange and all 'phone calls and Internet connection were lost - it never rains but .....
