Thanks you for the pointer. They seem to be wholesalers and their locations are a long way from us so I have emailed them to ask if they can point me to a retailer near us who can supply.

It is a pain but we are used to it; we lived in Tanzania in the 80s when Julius Nyrere (socialist) was president. We had shops there but the shelves were usually empty of even the basic essentials! One would carry a wad of the worthless currency around and if there was a queue anywhere one just joined it and bought as much as they would sell to one customer. If it wasn't needed at home someone at the club would want it and pay you for it.

A very helpful bloke named Rashid telephoned today, apologised for the delay as he'd been on holiday and told me he is a Europfoods distributor. Only problem is he doesn't come as far as Sevilla. He says he is in Fuente de Piedra on Tuesdays and Fridays and if I give him a ring a couple of days before we want to meet he'll make sure he has the frikandellen with him. It's a long way but we keep meaning to go to do some birdwatching in the reserve there and see the flamingos in the laguna so we may well combine the trip and stay a night or two.

There is a very good Dutch shop in Altea as well.

Brian in case you did not have any luck at any of the on line shops recommended, maybe try your own hand at making some Frikandellen

Now that looks a good challenge! Thank you. We'll add this to our to-do list for the New Year.

I am surprised though. From the things I had heard I was expecting to have to put in at least a pig's snout, an eyeball, a couple of ears and even more unmentional parts of the anatomy.
