Re: Any Dutch expats on here?
My wife is Dutch and frikandellen, singular: frikandel, is a precooked, skinless sausage-shaped compressed meat product. In Limburg Beckers is the most common brand. When asking people in the Netherlands what goes into them one is often met with the reply 'you really don't want to know, just enjoy them!' The 'meat' is finely minced with added herbs and spices giving the unique flavour. The frikandel is deep fried and served with frites (chips) and lots of mayonnaise and often other sauces. The frikandel 'special' is cut halfway through along its length with a special cutter before frying which makes it open up and this is then filled with mayonnaise, curry sauce and finely chopped onion. Frikandellen are sold in supermarkets usually frozen but can be bought fresh from some smaller shops. They are a staple in 'frite shops'. Not to be confused with the German offering of a similar name (frikadelle) which are like flattened meatballs and not at all the same taste.

Re: Ady Dutch expats on here?
I was going to say that there is a Dutch supermarket in Granada (I went there oncee with my Dutch friend), but it is nowhere near you!
But I will ask her when I see her if she knows of any others. |

Re: Ady Dutch expats on here?
Surely after such a good description you should be able to make them yourselves?
Here is a shop called Maxcoop and they sell them but then most of the things sold there are from NL or B. Wonder if you can order them online :sneaky: |

Just found a website that says that they can sometimes be bought in Lidl and Aldi.

Thank you Rosemary. Yes, that's an earlier attempt of mine at finding a source :) We do have Lidl and Aldi near us but, so far, they have not had them in stock. Both stores are fairly small and tend to carry only basic stuff. For instance, on that same forum someone mentioned a Lidl on the CDS having a very good strong bread flour for sale but ours doesn't carry it. :( Oh the pleasures of living in the bush!!

We have 3 Lidl shops that are probably similar in size to each other, in different towns about 10 Km to 12 Km from us and it is amazing the differences in their stock so I am not surprized at what you are saying.
