I'm still having problems!!!

Day before yesterday I put more floculant in and left the pump running, and the water has now cleared again leaving a nice layer of sand etc on the pool floor.

Neighbour has suggested cleaning a third, then backwash / runse, clean another third, repeat.

So trying that later on today

No, vac it straight to waste, then it won`t go through the filter, so you won`t need to backwash and rinse.
If you put floc through the filter it will take a week to get rid of it.

I already did that mate. It had an effect, but not much of one. I've just finished vacuuming again and it looks a little hazy, left the pump on and see what it looks like in a few hours

Its looking OK at the moment, but not quite the old sparkly self it was. If it doesn't clear I'll check the ph again later and do as you say

It clears quicker the longer the pump is on.

If the pump has been on for 3 days then clearly the filter is not capable of removing such fine particles - a sand filter is pretty crude!

Either leave it all to settle for a day or two and then pump to waste or read my previous post (#16) and get a Miraclear thingy - I am sure it will solve the problem.

I hadn't ignored your advice Fred, I've been looking for some but no luck yet, going to the local pool shop in the next day or so.

We had visitors so the stuff off the bottom was getting disturbed and the filter couldn't cope with it. I am almost there now, just a slight milky haze, but not much. I'm hoping it clears overnight
