I registered my uk car onto spanish plates last year (quite an experiance). I went to pay my car tax at the tax office in Jumilla (one man at a small desk in the centre of a jumbo plane hanger, where we had to take a ticket from the machine before he would talk to us even though no-one else had been in there for 2 days). I havnt had a reminder and no money has been taken out of my account. Does the tax run for an exact year from payment (05/03/12) or does it run out on 28th Feb 2013 or 31st march 2013. Hoping this post might save me an uneessary trip

Ours is paid in May, could be you paid pro rata possibly

Car tax runs from the 1st of January for the whole year. The owner on the 1st of January pays for the whole year even if he sells it on the 2nd of January.

The payment is made sometime after 1st of January, often not until May depending on the local council.

This is a local town hall tax so every where will be different

Around here the bill must be paid between 1st March and 1st May but will be debited from your bank account (if one is set up) on or around 2nd April.

Just received my reminder - dated 19th Feb, postmark 11th March. Payday is May and seems to cover the calendar year.
