Hmmm ... but maybe we forget that theses athletes have spent every minute of every day since they were really quite young out on the tennis court or training on the road till late, or at the gym. So I think they deserve the money they get because they have sacrificed so much of their life to get to the stage they are at now.
Bit different to footballers who earn a huge amount of money for a relatively short career of often being very very annoying :D |
Re: Andy Murray
My conclusion as to why Andy is disliked by the English media is that there are an awful lot of English people out who are green with jealousy that Scotland has produced one of the best tennis players in the world.
I can't remember if Tim Henman was ever asked if he supported the Scottish football team after any of his tennis matches...... |
Re: Andy Murray
One things for sure, this years sports personality is going to be very interesting.

No - it's because he's a miserable git. No-one thinks the same about Chris Hoy.

Correct, and as you say, if selection was strictly on "Sports Personality", he wouldn't get a look in. He's had a personality bypass. I see they are holding a victory parade in Glasgow to celebrate their success in the Olympics. Chris Hoy and all the crowd will be there, all except Murray, he's a bit tired apparently.
Ryan Giggs won it a couple of years back and although he isn't surly and miserable like Murray, he has no real personality either just like him, it should be just Sportman or woman of the year, not personality TBH. |

Maybe they could come up with something different for competitors such as Murray, like a special award for the longest streak of misery in the world of Tennis. |

That crossed my mind also, but having seen some of Murrays tantrums on court I'm afraid he'd still be ruled out of contention on the Sportsman issue.

Re: Andy Murray
I asked the BF if there were any sports people the Spanish don't like, and apparently Spain's Most Hated is Fernando Alonso the F1 driver. Too cocky and full of himself!

Re: Andy Murray
Andy Murray is not always miserable in interviews.
He does seem to be more 'reserved' in interviews with the BBC (maybe it's the BBC he has a problem with or maybe it's British media in general) but if you see him interviewed by others he can be witty and charming. We are, of course, all free to judge as we see fit, however limited the basis for that judgement. I was - and am - very happy for Andy Murray. Having read some of the comments on this thread I feel lucky and grateful for that - it's clear that his win really peed some people off. Then again, in a way, that just makes his victory all the sweeter ;) |

Strange how most athletes are happy to parade in front of their adoring fans within hours of a tough competition or sometimes after travelling overnight, but it's to much for Andy even a few days later. Having said that,I don't suppose his Momma would approve of him socialising with those scruffy Glaswegian types anyway. It's noticeable how these big name tennis stars bring out all the maternal instincts in many women who want to mollycoddle and protect them at all times as though they are still babies. For the first time in my life I'm beginning to wish I was a baby again. ;) |
