If it were in Basque the likelihood is that you'd recognise absolutely nothing!!

"Euskeraz esan baginun ezer ez zinun aitzuko!!" which is the translation of the above in Basque.

eskerrik asko (thank you!)

I recognise the word asko, but you have spelt it wrong.

you had me running to the Basque dictionary to double check!! No bad thing.

I'm sorry, but it does say "asko" & not azko which you may have thought. In fact azko doesn't exist in Basque, at least not in the dictionary!

Sorry it was a joke of mine.

I dont know the first thing about the Basque language, but ASCO means dirty, disgusting, disgust etc. in Spanish.

Cheers JL

No problem. Yes, asco tends to be heard a lot here, such as "que asco". Such as when I've explained about problems lambing ewes for instance!
Basque is pretty difficult, to say the least; they reckon that it's possibly the original Iberian language spoken in this area, Cantabria & what is now Gascony.
The only word Basque has given other languages is "bizarra" (bizarre)which means beard, & presumably at a time when beards were weird!

Franco forbade them to speak it, which still rankles among some people. Hence their suspicion of PP, etc.
My wife, as a 5 year old was told by a nun in school to "speak Christian" (ie Spanish)!
