Back to the plot, you've said you're now considering setting up business elsewhere....... well two thoughts. What's your business? Cos you may just need to be coastal for the tourist population, in which case were you thinking Andalucia for the weather? You could go further north/east...
And yes, Andaluz is definitely absolutely categorically not as easy to follow as perhaps Castillian Spanish, or certainly Spanish from other specific parts of the country - I've conducted a conversation easy peasy with a couple from Cordoba where I'd have been asking for repeats if they'd been Andaluz. It's even more specific than you might think, within a 15-mile radius of here the three villages all have (to local ears) different pronunciation. So what chance does an English ear stand!
Anecdote: my brother (Argentinian), son (in school in Colmenar) & I (kind of ok-ish pronunciation, not totally fluent Spanish) were talking about the Spanish language - in English - at a bar. We were talking about the pronunciation of the numbers - my son notably says uno do tre ....etc without the 's'. My brother almost didn't believe it. The waiter came up to join in & said that of the three of us it was obvious who was the local - my 6 year old son!
good luck wherever you choose to pitch

Quite correct in Salamanca and Valladolid you will hear Castillian in its purest form and they are probably the best places to learn Spanish, its much like somebody going to the UK and studying English in Oxford or Cambridge.

Re: andalucian dialect

We had some Madrileño tourists come to our village a few years back.

They didn't understand our villagers' accents. We could understand them easier than we can the locals.

Our local dialect too has the 's' missed out, in fact many of the consonants get missed; for example pescados becomes -'pec-ow'

I asked for 'dos mas' once in a bar. The bar owner looked at me blankly for a few seconds and then said 'doh ma?'

So no, I don't think it's one of the easiest dialects if Spaniards from Madrid can't understand it.

Can I ask if you want to learn to speak Spanish or write it?

Andalucian Spanish is verging on a laungage of it's own! I know a few people from Madrid who came down here, and couldn't figure it out at all. they said it was like learning a new language all over again.

It's very slangy and certainly not 'correct'....but then if you intend to live here, then it doesn't really matter. But it's not the place to come to learn 'Spanish'!!

to be honest, if it's just a 4 week course, it really doesn't matter where you do it

you'll be learning basic vocab & grammar, which doesn't really change wherever you are in Spain (there will always be some regional differences in 'slang' - just as there is in the UK)

In Sevilla you will learn with an accent local to there - I was originally taught by a Sevillana - and I could always understand her - but my pronunciation & accent is more local to where I live

Spain is a big country with lots of different accents - and yes, the Andaluz accent is very strong & difficult to understand - but then many English people have trouble understanding a scottish accent:eek:

As mentioned above, the purest form of Spanish is meant to be spoken in Valladolid. I still think the best place to take a language course is in Madrid (loads of cheapo schools, plenty of people from all over the world to practise Spanish with). Not that I'm knocking Valladolid, mind, some incredible wines and tapas can be consumed there. Just a bit cold in winter though.
