Amazon Spain - any good?
Can any of you lovely people in the Spanish forum give me some advice regarding the Spanish Amazon, please?
Best mate hopefully moving to Spain soon (EU citizen, no problems with visas etc ) - currently I send a lot of stuff to him in the UK via Amazon. From what I've read, if I keep using the UK Amazon site with his address in Spain then he could run into problems with import tax etc?
If that's the case, would I be better using the Spanish Amazon site - is it any good? Amazon Australia is pretty useless compared to the US and UK sites, but I've not seen any reports of how good the Spanish one is.
Or are there any other sites, mainly for ordering books, which you can recommend for Spanish deliveries?
And any useful tips on the postal service to/within Spain in general - or even specific to Galicia - would be good!
Thanks in advance!

I often make a comparison with amazon.es when I use amazon.uk. Sometimes goods are very comparable, sometimes worse. I tend to use amazon.uk for 2nd hand books mostly (to read, not to sell). I tend to buy used DVD's from amazon.uk because the selection is massive compared to amazon.es.
My favourite shaving cream (Taylors of Old Bond St) is available on amazon.es for around €15, with free postage; UK price is around €11, but then when you add postage & risk of it getting lost, amazon.es wins. So, it's horses for courses.
I've not really noticed much difference in time lag or price when buying from UK.

They are brilliant. Next day deliveries. Fair prices that are often less than the physical shops. Relied on them constantly the last 15 months and have decided that even when my life changes to any form of "normality" that I will continue to predominantly shop how I have during these trying times. No idea on books from them though because I use my Kindle.

All sounds really positive, thanks so much everyone. Having experienced Amazon launching in Australia, and being pretty useless, I was a little apprehensive, but it sounds like I needn't worry. Really appreciate it

I try to avoid it out of principle but when I need something fast and don't have time to shop around they always win. To give an idea, I ordered something at 7:30 last night and received it at 10 am.

Generally amazon.es is pretty good delivery wise and i use it a lot. However the range of product is way smaller than amazon.co.uk. Can also be a lot more expensive for the same item.
Check the items origin carefully as some stuff listed is sourced/shipped from uk and therefore may end up with the same issues as if you ordered from amazon.uk
As mentioned fr and de are also worth looging at as ther can be huge price differences between the three sites. I use hagglezon which price compares across amazon's eu sites.

Re: Amazon Spain - any good?
I have Amazon prime Spain, its half the price of Amazon Prime Uk and just as good.
Its weird but Ive ordered stuff from the .es site and its come from the UK warehouse via Holland and has no customs sticker on (not sure how that works) and with free postage.
Stuff ordered here in Spain (or from the German site) gets here usually next day. I waited 3 days for something from Germany and they sent me an apology and a 10% off voucher and it was shipped from Amazon germany.
My prime video has more content than the uk one and Ive noticed something weird. The account on the mac with video has all the uk shows on it, but when i look at my Prima account on the LG Tv its the Spanish content (I get round this by putting all the Uk stuff in my favourites and then like magic, its all on the TV).
Kindle is great as well, same selections (you can choose language) and prices are sometimes slightly higher but still 1/3 price for a dead tree.
I buy my Art supplies from the same Uk company on Amazon that Ive used for the past 30 years (but its shipped from the Spanish sister store). So again free shipping and no tax.

Amazon has lorries going back and fourth between their distribution centres in various countries and so far they seem to pass straight though the Brexit curtain. Where possible you should buy from an EU Amazon instead of the UK one.

Re: Amazon Spain - any good?
Many thanks to all of you
I ventured into the world of Amazon Spain last weekend - with the help of Google Translate!
Very impressed, free delivery promised within 2 days, but actually happened within 24 hours. They emailed to say attempted delivery midday Sunday (!!) but no answer. By the time I had translated the email, they had made a second attempt - my friend had been celebrating his move to Spain and had a few beers......and G&Ts.....and had just fallen into bed when the delivery guy knocked at the door - at 22.30 on a Sunday night!
I am super impressed, makes Amazon Australia look like a seriously poverty-stricken relation
