My wife confirms that almuerzo is an old Andalucian term for a mid-morning snack not used in the most of Spain

And Almuerzo actually means lunch in Latin America

Have to admit I've normally seen Desayunos y Meriendas used for the morning and afternoon coffee snacks. But I have seen almuerzo used in Valencia too.
