Aggghhhhhhh Silverstone

for me silverstone lost appeal when they introduced the abbey chicane and made bridge much slower, no more taking the corner flat out and braking for the complex....there was more overtaking then than when the reshaped it, especially in the more exciting support races - BTCC cars were brave / idiotic in their overtakings there!

Although I think it's a dull as dishwater circuit to drive having driven it on four or five occasions it's obviously better in a 700bhp+ F1 car! The place is looking dated and needed a massive modernisation which as I understand they were given the opportunity to do and didn't. When you arrive at the Silverstone circuit it hardly inspires you and doesn't really carry the air of a world class GP circuit anymore.. especially when you consider it used to cost £25K to hire it for a day back in 2003
I love Donington and have driven it probably 30 times or more and I guess if you've got to start with a blank canvas then it just as well be there. No idea how the roads are going to cope though

Interesting article. Thanks for that.
If you wouldn't mind keeping your posts vaguely on topic and polite, it would be appreciated.

So....
My original point being, planning hasn't even been awarded, and there are doubts that it will be within the two year time frame.

What do you reckon. Doddington will go ahead, or there are shenanigans in the pipeline?
The one good thing is that at least there is a candidate place to retain a Grand Prix race in the uK.
I'm no petrol head, but even I think that it would have been a shame to lose it.
