The abortion issue is another thread. But in this day and age, theres no reason for anyone to fall pregnant if they dont want to (the odd one accepted) - and its also so easy to find out almost straight after "the deed" if you are pregnant and go to the GP and take a pill, the morning after and there is the abortion pills which can be taken up to 11 weeks I believe!
Jo xxx (As an amusing aside one of the other receptionists was highly embarassed when the wife of a local dignitary rang to ask if she could come and pick some up. "How many would you like?" enquired my friend. "Oh just about 3 months worth" came the reply. She consulted the rest of us as to how many that should be. Needless to say we all had widely different answers ) After one or two had had several abortions and other had babies, we got a new young female doctor. She worked wonders with some of these girls by getting them to have contraceptive implants. The birthrate in the village dropped dramatically. |

I used to believe that until I spent some time working as a Dr's receptionist. Our village had a few girls who at the risk of sounding superior, were too stupid or lazy to remember to take the pill or use some other method of protection. We gave out free condoms by the bag full to anyone who asked but they never did.

yes, it is the small difference of changing the person responsible for the support that can make so much difference. perhaps that is what is wrong - people should be moved around, not stay in the same place all the time.

Of the 5 doctors I worked for the best one by miles was the one who had set up the practice and been there 30 years. He took a real interest in his patients and also kept up to date professionally. The worst was one of the younger ones who was trying to make a name for himself. He hardly ever bothered to make a diagnosis he just sent everyone to hospital for tests. People dreaded seeing him because the hospital was a 2 hour return trip. |

Well I'm not sure that moving people around helps very much if they are just lazy and incompetent. That applies to all walks of life IMO.

The problem is that in some jobs L&I doesnt stop them from being in a job for life, sometimes even after they have taken one. :( |
