Just read that Spain is likely to raise the age of consent and the marriageable age (currently 13 and 14 respectively). They haven't said what it will be raised to, though.
El Gobierno estudia elevar la edad para el consentimiento sexual y el matrimonio One of the few sensible things this govt is doing, IMO. Thirteen is TOO young! Jo xxx |

Its interesting that the UK has the highest number of teenage pregnancies in Europe tho - altho that doesnt necessarily mean underage sex - I suspect its more to do with the ease of the UKs benefit system

Jo xxx Teen pregnancies at lowest level since 1960s The saddest thing in this article though is that half of all teenage pregnancies in the UK are aborted, so they've still got a long way to go. |

Is it simply because the UK has lost the "old fashioned" morals that it once had and that Spain still nurtures. The UK does seem very accepting and forgiving these days. Once upon a time a girl would be in serious trouble and scorned if she were to admit to having sex outside of wedlock - today, well its almost encouraged by our society?? If that is the case and Spain is still more strict on the subject, then it could also mean that girls arent prepared to admit to it???
Jo xxx Personally I think it is because sex is seen as glamorous among young people in the UK, mainly due to marketing. And there is a teenage culture of rebelling against their parents Both are less prevalent in Spain - and Spanish children as a result grow up a little later on, and probably start doing things at around 18/19 than UK teenagers were doing much earlier. |

The abortion issue is another thread. But in this day and age, theres no reason for anyone to fall pregnant if they dont want to (the odd one accepted) - and its also so easy to find out almost straight after "the deed" if you are pregnant and go to the GP and take a pill, the morning after and there is the abortion pills which can be taken up to 11 weeks I believe!
Jo xxx I certainly wouldn't want to self-abort after 11 weeks, especially if I was a teenager who couldn't bring herself to tell her parents. Better maybe to take a different approach and work on why some kids in the UK think they haven't had a good night out unless they've drunk themselves stupid and had a shag? (Sorry about the language, Ms Squeaky Clean, but you know what I mean! :)) |

Do you have to go to a GP for a morning after pill in the UK? Here you can get them from the chemist (though I hear our lovely govt is about to stop that).

(Sorry about the language, Ms Squeaky Clean, but you know what I mean! :)) You can buy the morning after pill over the counter now, altho I think there are age restrictions. But of course its cheaper/free to get it on prescription!!!! I'm not that squeaky clean lol!! I dont understand the need for a shag at the end of the night (IME as we get older, we go out of our way to avoid it LOL!!?). But surely a better use of contraceptives would help. I dont believe that there are many, if any "unwanted pregnancies" in the UK that are caused thru lack of knowledge and as for not telling parents, I dont think teenagers are afraid of that one anymore. Interestingly, my daughter was talking about this subject yesterday. She said that she is the only one of her friends (they're all 15yos) who hasnt had sex!!!!! I told her that I'm sure most of them are lying. So she said, "should I lie too then???" FFS!!! I told her not to talk about it with them - decent girls dont. Its those quietly discreet girls who are probably those who have, but either way, its not an activity that should be broadcast in the playground. But what a weird state of affairs!!!!! Jo xxxx |
