Hi,
Be careful. Buying property, with a view to renting, is not a good idea at the moment. There are far too many properties available, even in summer! If your ability to repay the mortgage on it is dependent on you being able to rent it out, think twice...or maybe more than twice.

Hi Thank you for your advice. We are looking at places we can buy that we can maintain without needing it rented but if we do then that is a bonus.
We have allocated £800 a month for a mortgage over there in spain and that we can afford why we are still renting in the uk. So we would not buy a property that we would struggle to afford to pay back the mortgage payments.
It would be great if we could rent it out for a few weeks in the summer but mainly it would be nice to use it at weekend and for the holidays.

There should be some bargains around, bargains compared to recent years anyway. Look for ones that are close to completion and you should get a nice deal. As everyone always, if the location is good then you don't need to worry so much about the investment potential.

we live in Miraflores and i can honestly say that it is a really nice place to live, it has got everything you need here and is extremley convenient for schools, shopping etc. However the apartment block we live in is three years old and is and is still only about 50% full which is great for living here but not so good if you are looking for a rental income as there is a lot of competition. Hope this helps.

I personally would not touch any of those places as a buy-to-let area.
Many properties are empty - there are just too many!
Even here in the sticks in the Sierra Nevada mountains, people can't rent their property.
I personally would save my money until I was ready to move. And then I wouldn't go to an expat enclave.
But that is just MHO.

If you want to know what the rental potential of an area is, look on one of the main holiday rental websites such as Ownwers Direct, Holiday Lettings or Holiday Rentals.
By now most of the bookings will be in for the peak summer months and a look at a few availability calendars and prices etc will give you an idea of the market.

Hi
Thank you all so much for your advice, we will be making a decision within the next few weeks.
We would mainly be renting to friends and family who want a cheap holiday.
Am i right in saying that the miraflores is the heritage resort place?

Hi missnaughty..glad things are going better for you nowadays.
In my opinion I would avoid Calahonda, too many appartments crammed in and still more being built up the top of the hill, Cabopino beach below Calahonda gets crammed, even though many of the appartments seem constantly empty, here's some Blurb Not my cuppa rosy I am afraid and looking at the amount of properties for sale there, a few others as well.
Good luck with your search...please be carefull..

Hi
Just to let you know Mr N and i have decided to wait before we make any decision.
We have talked over the weekend and took everyone's comments onboard and decided it could be risky.
We will still be going out but to rent to start and see from there what happens.
Thanks for everyone's input and advice.
