That is very illuminating. It seems discounting Gib no matter how far south you are but East of Almeria with good well tuned equipment of appropriate size you can get reception. West of Almeria seems a no no. However there may be somebody with say a good 3 m dish top notch LNB who may be able to disprove that.

Just had a look at all BBC channels and they are suffering to some extent from the inclement weather we have at the moment

Excellent map showing reception or not.

Nearest to me is Quesada. same sized dish. I thought for a minute the answer would be just to get a bigger dish until I saw folk in Malaga with 2 metre plus dishes without reception!! Maybe 3.1 metre?

Spain has many laws to protect the environment, like the ones to prohibit building right on the coast, or the ones to stop ugly satellite dishes being put up all over the place.

Yet they don't enforce those common sense laws, you can't walk along the coast because houses are in the way, and the plethora of satellite dishes are a disgrace, especially where there are expats around wanting to watch their soaps.

I suppose we will start complaining when they knock down our houses with sea views and dismantle the satellite dishes over three metres tall.

I have had many reception reports from all over Spain (and beyond) all listed here :

http://www.satandpcguy.com/Site/astr...k_tv_spain.php

The map I cannot take credit for, I simply feed the reports I get to someone else on a dedicated satellite forum, so we can get a much better, and more reports, and thus more accurate data, to give a better idea of 2Es reception in Spain.

Interesting.

Looks like the East coast from Barca down to Cartagena fares particularly well.
The rest of the peninsula not very good at all, based on the limited reports
..and the Balearics possibly marginal.

Strange pattern if accurate, possibly indicating a strong side lobe mainly directed north and south of Valencia ?

I sometimes worry about the satellite dish in the garden behind me, which belongs to a rather strange Englishman who hardly ever visits. The ugly thing must be well over four metres tall and is motorised, although it moves around even though there's no one in the house. It more or less points along the ground, rather than up in the air, but the neighbour has promised not to point it in our direction.

It looks too dangerous to be pointing directly at someone from mere yards away. I'm using a wired modem at the moment, if I plug in my wireless one or a tablet the connection goes crazy.

I see that the European beam still covers southern Spain. What channels broadcast on this band, are any English language, and how do you tune in to them? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

PS: we have a Metronomic box for receiving Spanish satellite TV as well as Sky box.

Unless it's a death ray in disguise then I don't think you'll have much to fear from a receiving dish!

So strong my 80cm dish gets them most of the day -
Most of the day as there is a significant drop in signal on the uk beam from about 0030 to 0730 ish...

Nice place to come to if people want their UK TV on smaller dishes! I know of someone good who installs in that area
