Then according to what you have put above, the admin page of the router should be accessible by typing 192.168.0.1 into the address bar. If that does not work, then I'd say that the network cable is knackered!

have tried that, aswell.

Original cable worked fine, have also tried with new one. COmputer tells me LAN is connected, if I switch off the router it tells me LAN has been disconnected, so I'm sure it's not the cable. But I don't understand why I can't access that page.

Will speak to them again tomorrow.

Update but no news.

They say they've been phoning the engineers - telefonica, I imagine - every 2 hours since I first complained to find out the status. However, still no success.

Today they suggested I connect via RTB in the meantime which I thought sounded ok until I realised that just means dial-up.

Open a DOS prompt and type in the following: netstat -n

Do this while connected to the router and paste what you get here.

Those numbers are utterly unfamiliar to me....they are not the numbers in my network set up TCP boxes...

Yeah, Nothing too helpful there.

Sorry, I don't use Windows, so thinking a bit :) if you double click the little networking box in the bottom right. That should open a box with two tabs on. General and Support. Click Support and tell me what the default gateway is.

Well, it may say you are connected. But that says you aren't. If you want, PM me your phone number and I will try to talk you through some things. My Spanish is limited though.

Does it say my PC isn't connected to the router?

Or that the router isn't conencted to the outside world?

Just looked at mine and you don`t appear to have an IP address or subnet mask, just zeros, but don`t know the cure, I am sure sojohn can sort it for you though. ,-)

Ha, maybe. We are making progess. We have some numbers there now but then the fun begins when trying to connect the router to the outside world :)

I promised to report back, and while it's not fixed there may be a glimmer of hope.

Apparently, a telefonica tecnico has been trying to phone me today (and it's true, I have 2 missed calls) to come and have a look. This means they've accepted there's a fault and they're trying to do something about it.

Now I just have to hope he really will phone back...

The tecnico didn't phone back, but did turn up unannounced soon after. he said there's nothing wrong with the adsl so the ISP told me it must be the router and they would send me a new one.
