ADSL - connection problem
Sorry if this is in the wrong place - it's probably not specific to Spain but that's where I am...
I moved 3 weeks ago and today my ISP phoned to say that my ADSL should be working now. However it's not. The ADSL light on the router keeps flashing, it needs to be on and steady. I checked with an adsl modem I still have here, it flashes aswell. I've checked the cables (work with telephone Ok) and I've tried with and without filter and with telephone disconnected. The light is still flahsing and I still can't connect (I'm currently using dial-up) Am I right in thinking there is definitely a problem with the line - it's not my hardware or my configuration? For what it's worth, I previously moved just over a year ago and on that occasion just had to reconnect the router once the service was activated and it worked as before and I'm sure it should have been just as simple this time. Any advice much appreciated.... |

Re: ADSL - connection problem
Plug your phone in without any filter then pick it up. Do you get a normal ringtone or is there ADSL interference on the line?
If there is no interference, ADSL is not connected. If that's the case report it. Also when you say you have checked cables, make sure they "click" when pushed in and aren't just pushed in. It could take a few days of intermittent ADSL before you get it 24/7 - going from my own experience of Telefonica. |
Re: ADSL - connection problem
Router preconfigured with username and password?

Re: ADSL - connection problem
Whos your providor?
I felt the need to go with TF in the end as I heard so many stories about third party providors not delivering a reliable service. |
Re: ADSL - connection problem
I'm with idecnet - been with them 2 years and generally they've been great.
I'd originally applied to telefonica, but waited over 2 months, people at 1004 telling me, no, I jsut had to go on waiting, they had no idea how much longer, etc. I spoke to them this morning, took about 10 mnutes but eventually they admitted it sounds like "the adsl line isn't working". So, is the adsl problem their fault or telefonica's? And yes, router came pre-configured - however I take the flashng light to mean there is no adsl so the problem is unlikely to be the configuration. |
Re: ADSL - connection problem
i can't help but i empathise, i was in the same position last week and i just kept clicking stuff in the control panel, moving thing up in priority, changing setting and it just started working. I wouldn't advise it though cos it may have worked this time but last time i completely cocked up my laptop settings...
Sorry, not that helpful really... |
Re: ADSL - connection problem
but this may be more helpful and just a thought. Did you have a really bad storm last night? We did a couple of weeks ago and that's when mine started playing up. Telefonica said the storm was likely to have affected my network card (whatever that is...maybe blown it or something?) so if there was a storm that may have affected something?
Telefonica advised me to make sure i switch my router off next time there's a storm...which I do now, but at the time as they couldn't get the blinking thing to work it was a bit of a pointless piece of advice.... |

Get them to check with Telefonica if its activated. |

I would take it the flashing light means there is adsl line but not connecting.

Get them to check with Telefonica if its activated. The flashing continues exactly the same if I take the telephone cable out, so I don't think it signifies there's adsl there. Funnily enough when telefonica first connected my telephone a few weeks back, I had a steady green light - as if they'd also connected adsl. I couldn't connect, because I'm not a customer of theirs. Once Idecnet requested the adsl for me, the steady green light vanished and now I only have a flashing light (I think it's amber, it's the LAN light which is steady green and makes everything else look greenish). The Ready light is also flashing. |
Re: ADSL - connection problem
Hi Rachelk!
If you have a flashing adsl light your modem is not in sync. Try the following: Make sure plugged in the main socket or Test with telephone extensions (if any) disconnected Also disconnect all other non adsl equipment eg: faxes, cordless phones, satelite tv (if you have it and it is on the same line) Reinstall drivers If possible try connecting to a known working adsl line, or try known working modem on your line If your modem works elsewhere , it is likely to be the adsl service, if another modem works on your line, it is either your modem or filter. Have you had b/b long or is it new, if so has it worked at all. If new and hasn't worked get your ISP to confirm order completed. Check with your telephony provider to confirm there is no line fault as this will affect your adsl. If has worked and you have done all the above report as a fault. Good luck! ;) Chris XXX  |
Re: ADSL - connection problem
There is a little hole at the back of these routers, if you stick a pin into it, that re programmes it again. Hopefully that helps.

Re: ADSL - connection problem
I haven't had BB before at this address - I moved last month.
I haven't tried the router in another line, but have tried it with the telephone unplugged. Also tried a speedtouch modem instead and it doesn't detect a signal either. I reported it as a fault on Thursday, but so far nothing. The customer service dept doesn't appear to work weekends and it's unlikely that the technical dept do either. So it'll be monday at the soonest, and if not, I may cancel and look for another supplier. ISP confimed order completed and service 'available' on thursday. Telphony provider, Telfonica, say they don't have any information because my adsl service isn't with them. I also tried the reset button, but it didn't help. The only light lit is the LAN one. Ready and adsl are flashing amber. As I said above, when telefonica first connected my telephone a few weeks back, I had a steady green light - as if they'd also connected adsl. I couldn't connect, because I'm not a customer of theirs. For that reason I'm confident it's not the router. |
Re: ADSL - connection problem
we have a Hayes ADSL Duo, and on that there are two lights, well three if you count the power one, there is a steady LINK light, shows the router is connected to a suitable telephone line, and a LAN light which flashes when you are connected to the internet.

Re: ADSL - connection problem
Ok, another question
The old modem occasionally shows a steady green light, so maybe there is adsl on the line? I can't use it though, I don't have a password - the router came ready configured. To change or check the configuration, according to the user guide I need to go to http://10.0.0.2 but I can't do it, the page won't open. Another question I moved a year ago with none of this hassle - but on that occasion moved within the same city and kept the same phone number. This time I moved city and changed number. Is there something in the router set-up or at their end which needs changing to take account of the change of phone number? What can I do? |
