Additional heating
Hi to all
We have a open plan living area which we would like to add additional heating.
The cubic area will be approx. 150m
We have gas heating with traditional rads, should have had underfloor, we still find the room difficult to warm up, we would like to warm up the floor. Without laying rugs everywhere.
We were thinking of pellet burner with fan to blow the warm air over the floor if possible.
The pros and cons.
Looking for advice really, has anyone else had and overcome this issue.
Thanks in advance

We have under floor heating, but it can take a while to heat a large area. We use a Dyson fan to take away the chill. Latest Bladeless Fan Heater Technology | Dyson.co.uk

Re: Additional heating
We have multiple forms of heating and our living area, like yours, is open plan at about 200m3. A wood burning stove heats this adequately in the evening.
In the morning the underfloor heating warms the rooms to a comfortable level, but as we are on a dual tariff, we avoid using it during the peak period after 12 noon unless it is very cold as it is very expensive. In the evening the floor has cooled so we have small rugs under our feet, but the wood burner kicks out a lot of heat (there is a built in fan) and a lot of radiant heat which keeps things pretty cosy.
If we are out all day, the house will be cold when we return so we use the Aircon for an immediate boost of heat until we get the wood burner fired up.
The combination works very well, but needless to say, costs a lot to run - but that's the penalty for having large open areas.

So, looks like we will be buying a dyson for this winter until we can have the multi fuel installed.
Can anyone recommend a good quality heater and installer, we are in Moraira.

We bought one last August in Shrewsbury England at the QVC Returns/overstock shop. It cost £129 is the latest hot/cold model complete with remote control fully guaranteed by both QVC and Dyson with all paperwork. We bought mainly for cooling in summer and have made no use of the heat element yet except to check it works.
Our room is about the same size as Fred's and we do not unfortunately have underfloor heating but do have inverter Aircon units and a wood burner plus a small fan heater with thermostat.
It is a law that hot air rises so any form of heat not below the tiles will head upwards leaving cold feet. So we do as the natives do and place the heater under one end the coffee table with a large table cloth over the other two sides touching the floor and the settee on the fourth with us on it. After watching TV for 30 mins we have to turn the thermostat down since our feet and bodies are very warm. Our room is at one side 30ft high so up there it must be roasting. I have a project in mind to fit a " punka walla " fan to redirect some of that down again but have not yet worked out how to get the electric supply up there.
The other thing to do is to make sure your slippers have a good insulating sole. I found a pair in Lidl that are small woollen boots with a hard sole and they are perfecto! It is possible to be warm at not too great a cost but you must be like the locals and not be concerned about looking pretty. When we do light the wood burner it will not go out until the weather turns warmer.

Have toyed with idea before of getting a Dyson fan heater but always shyed away in the end because of cost.
Could you give us some feedback on your experience with it. What size of room do you heat, does it heat quickly, are they expensive to run?
Thanks

Re: Additional heating
The initial cost is undeniably more than you would pay for a fan heater. However I consider it value for money. In my experience you generally pay more for a quality product. Perhaps like choosing a Sony over a Hitachi TV?
We find within seconds it produces a comfortable warm airflow in a large room. It would not be suitable as the only source of heat. It does appear to be efficient, but that is subjective. What I can say is - it is MUCH more effective than the fan heater which we used before.
We were not sure either and bought from John Lewis knowing that we could return the Dyson if it did not perform as we hoped it would.
