When I ordered my freesat white card yesterday they told me I didnt need to ring them back up. Once the card is inserted then the channels will come straight on.

Ex subscription (blue) cards that we being used as a free to view card WILL NOT be replaced for free.
So you will need to pay for a £20 new card and arrange for it to be activated.
On a side note, some sub cards that were paired and activated for a Sky+ box, and that subscription has been cancelled have been continue to work the hard drive record and playback features...
When you get a replacement white card, do NOT expect the hard drive functions to continue to work....
For the Sky+ and Sky HD+ boxes hard drive features you MUST pay Sky somehting per month...either £10 per month for HDD access, or a minimum of a 1 mix TV package.
It is down to an error that your ex sub blue card had the HDD feature still active....
So you will need to pay for a £20 new card and arrange for it to be activated.

YOu can get someone in the UK to pop it into their sky box, call sky and get it activated....then send it to you....
or they send it to you, you opop it into your box, note the services, 4, 5 details, and either call sky yourself (using skype, voip, uk mobile with call blocking or any other method you can find) or give the details to your UK contact to "call on your behalf"
If it is a free replacement card then it wil be preactived - and the letter will instruct you to remove old card, insert new card, wait for a few seconds, and all will be working.

Ok Ive recieved my new freesat card this morning. I did the stupid thing and chuck the old blue one in the bin a few days ago now when I insert I get a message telling me to insert the old viewing card for 5 mins then change.
What do I do now if I havent the old card?

try your new card anyway..it may work.....
if not you may have to contact sky to getthe card activated.....

I had the card in for 4 hrs and it didnt activate so I phoned sky. They said my seriel number on the pace box was invalid for some reason so he had to email his manager to get it activated manually which apparently could take upto 24hrs. I have to keep the card in the slot until it is so ive no TV and it's my day off. Nevermind.

You should have TV - at least the ffree TV channels anyway....
you should, if waiting for an actiavtion siganl, make sure your SKy box is turned on and receiveing a channel...
as long as you have a channel then the signal can be sent...so even if you go out, leave the box on a nice strong signal like sky news, and TURN OFF autostandy (in the services menu!)

I dont have anything. As soon as I put the new card in a get a message on the screen saying PLEASE INSERT OLD VIEWING CARD, WAIT FIVE MINUTES THEN REPLACE WITH NEW VIEWING CARD.

turn it on without the card in it, I get all free channels without any card, then put the card in.

Tried that. I can only get the free channels when I take the new card out. Sky instructed me to keep it in til its activated (between 2 and 24hrs)
Its now 9pm in the uk. Do you think I will be able to take the card out until I go to bed 2am (spain time) then put it back in then, I mean will the card be activated in reasonable office hours not like after say 10pm or could it be activated any time of the night too?

the signal can be sent at ANY TIME...
your card detail just gets added to the data streams, which can happen at any time...depending on the backlog, wokrs, and datastream frequency for that day....

Ok . Thanks a lot.
Better keep the card in. Im watching Filmon HDI right now but it keeps asking for a subscription every 5 mins and dont really wanna pay that just for 24hrs.!!
