also does anyone know whether my husband is still entitled to cash his pension whilst residing there.

Yes he is still entitled to his pension.

May I suggest he opens a Santander 123 account in the UK, gets his pension paid into that and he can draw cash as euros from any Santander ATM in Spain at a good rate with no charges.
