Default Secondment - where to live?

I am being seconded out to Singapore next months for 5 or 6 months followed by my colleague for same period of time.
We are looking for accommodation to potentially cover us both during our stays.
We have been told that Novena and Newton are good areas as lots of expats and quite close to business central. Would people recommend these areas or anywhere else? Also we have a budget of $4000 per month for rental which should include utilities, Internet etc is this feasible?
I have checked out a few apartments on Singapore expats and property guru which look quite good.

Any recommendations would be great. Thanks

All areas are good.
If you mean S$4000 then that is a bit low but it's doable.

Thanks ex reg - any recommendations on agents to contact?
I know the budget is pretty low, I don't think I will get a serviced apartment for that?

Ex Reg

I will be likely out in Singapore in 3rd quarter of 2013. Looking around Botanical Gardens with a budget of say $3k per week. All I will be looking for is 3 bed+ study and a decent pool.

What do you think should I increase budget to say $5k per week or will $3k be okay?

There's some nice stuff around the Bot Gardens.
I'd say S$12k pm will get you something nice.
Although I think you are going short term, you are intending to move to Nusajaya aren't you, but even short term in the present rental climate I think you'll be fine.
Even though property prices have continued increasing rental prices have gone down.

I am assuming that I will need a place in Singapore longer term, as I will work out of a office near botanical gardens.

With inlaws living in same resort/house in Nusajaya time will tell

Can't wait for my chilli crab

What about serviced apartments, Red Dragon? Might be the way to go? I'm sure Ex Reg will know. Aren't there some decent ones up Orange Grove Road - that's not far from Botanic Gdns.
