Just arrived in Singapore
Hey guys I've just arrived in Singapore after spending a year in Australia. I have a job as an English teacher that I start this week. Was just wondering if anyone could give any advice on where all the western people hang out/live etc, feels like I'm having to start all overt again with everything and needing some help! Have looked at places to rent in the holland and orchard area as I heard they are pretty popular, however will be working in Ao Ma Kio so bit further out. Where does the nightlife etc kick off here. Anyone else in the same boat out there, please give me a shout!

Hi Vikki. Welcome to the forum and welcome to Singapore.
I no longer live in Singapore so will have to leave to others where one might see some nightlife in Ang Mo Kio. I can say that nowhere is that far in Singapore. All the best with the job and hope you enjoy it there.

Hi Vikki
I used to live in AMK. AMK is not exactly famous for it's nightlife - but it is very close to Upper Thompson Road where there are lots of restaurants, you're very close to Bishan Park and MacRitchie Reservoir and as bakedbean says - not that far from town really.
You'll also get more for your money condo/house-wise in AMK than you would in the more traditional expat areas.
Good luck!
