Re: Canadian Equivalent words
yes, dbd, i'm a big, fat, 350 lb slob and I haven't been able to get my fat fanny off my chair for the last few days making it difficult to reply to you. Wow, I didn't know one's size had to do with poshness. So, I guess that according to you that explains why you are so superior and upper class. The thing is, with your attitude, you are too upper class and superior for most Canadians then! With your posh breeding and superior attitude , why oh why, would you choose Canada to go to?!

Besides which there's a stereotype of Guardinistas, just as there is one of Daily Mail, Torygraph or Sun readers. I comply exactly with the Graun stereotype being a smug champagne socialist of ill defined sexuality. I even have a picture on the bedroom wall which was personally donated by Julie Burchill.

Are you eating ones that are bought in a store? Try to find a polish deli that hand makes them. The ones that you get in a store or at a restaurant (unless home made) are nothing compared to my polish grandmas. She use to make them and then fry them in bacon fat - heaven on earth! We ate them with lots of sour cream!

I will mention the ones I have learned so far.
Rubber = Eraser
Pavement = Sidewalk
Trainers = Runners
Mum = Mom

Some time ago, when invited for "supper" (tea) by a friend, I declined saying I had a roast in the cooker. Months later this still causes them immense amusement - they thought I meant a joint of dope, maijuana, hash, call it what you will. I meant a roast of beef in the oven. So"
joint = roast
cooker = stove
curtains = drapes
rubbish = garbage
iced lolly = popsicle
trousers = pants
vest = undershirt
waistcoat = vest
spanner = wrench
crisps = potato chips
chips = french fries
and on and on and on...........who said it was the same language......
