Be good to see the sights of Adelaide, not a place i have seen very much of.

Cheers John

p.s yourself and Steve O are fantastic!! So much good advice, you should keep a record of how many sparks you get qualified!

hi all. just joined and found this thread. am i right in thinking that you can do some of the PEER course as distance learning (ie from uk) and then the exam in oz? i am hoping to be in perth by christmas, currently filling in artc application (to be posted to friends in perth i hope?) might have got the wrong end of the stick but worth a try! any help / advice greatfully received. lee.

You can do the peer course by correspondence, but only from another state in Australia - you can't do it from the UK. Sorry!

ah well, worth a try!
wendy, do you know how long the peer course takes? is it only for a SA licence (then get it transferred)? is it any quicker than doing etl course at tafe? and do you have to sit the exam in SA?
sorry, lots of question in my head at moment!!!
thanks very much.
lee.

you can do the peer course from the uk as i have just started mine all i have to do when i arrive in oz is contact peer to take my final exams, they send all worksheets and books if you need them to the uk with no postage to pay, i had brought my books previously and could have got them a lot cheaper via peer.
Pm me for any details,

Chris.

Hope this helps,

I have copied a couple of the e-mails i have received from PEER and attached the relevant documents.

The workbook i received contains about 140 A4 pages each with about 5 questions on, it says nominal duration 56 Hours on the front for me its going to be more like 156 hours !! once you complete this you then contact PEER when you know you will be in oz and arrange for your exam date. I'm hoping to go in October.

I faxed over my enrollment form and they e-mailed me the invoice which I paid for with my credit card over the phone and got a decent exchange rate as well. I received all books about a week later. You then get the tutors name and contact details if you need any help, which i think i will soon

Hopefully a few of you will do this soon so we can all help each other !!!

The books required are:

AS/NZ3000:2007 Wiring Rules
AS/NZ3008 Selection of cables
AS/NZ3012 Construction and Demolition Sites
ETSA Service and Installation Rules

As stated below the cost of the course with and without books - i think it works out cheaper to buy the books through PEER but i dont know if they will charge for postage to send them, they did'nt charge me postage for the workbook and ETSA service rules as i already had the other books.

If you wish to contact PEER use Gorica's e-mail i seemed to get a better response from that one.

The e-mails i received :-

Dear Chris,
All you need to do is to complete the attached enrolment form and send it back to PEER for processing. Once we have received your enrolment form, PEER will send out an invoice which you need to pay before the workbooks and textbooks are sent to you. The fees for the course is $855.00. If you have any further questions, you can contact me on the number below.

Kind Regards

Dear Christopher

Please find attached a confirmation letter for the Wiring Rules Correspondence course.
As stated in the letter, we will send you out the workbook and the ETSA Services text book upon payment. The invoice for the course will also be sent to you by e-mail.
The course cost without any books required is $510.00 but due to you requiring the ETSA Services text book, the total comes to $525.00.

If you have any further enquiries please contact us on 08 8348 1200 or you can e-mail us on [email protected]

Kind Regards

Thanks for that, very useful. I emailed someone there about two weeks ago and have had no reply yet. I will put some thought into if I should start before I leave for Aus, also hoping for october but it depends on house sale and if I can get redundancy at work.

lee,

once you have passed your wiring rules at peer in South Australia, you can only apply for a SA Licence, once you get this - takes about a month you then take it to the state you want to live and have to pay a fee to get it transferred to that state licence.

Have you had your skills recognized or are you going on a different visa ?

i have sent an email to peer and hope to get on same course.

Got my WA 'A' Grade licence today! My thanks to all who have helped here on B.E with a special big thankyou to Steve & Wendy for all the help and advice.

I went through Peer in Adelaide then the mutual recognition to a WA licence. From the time i applied for my ARTC i think it took just over three months. The most time spent waiting for departments to process what i sent to them.

I waited 5-weeks for ARTC to be processed and sent. 4-weeks for SA licence to be processed and sent, then a further 2 and a half weeks for my WA licence.

A few more beers owed to Steve & Wendy me thinks.

John

congratulations john! well done mate.
sending my artc application off in next couple of weeks.
debated whether to go via peer and then transfer like you did but cant really fund the $850 odd dollar fee at moment (new baby!).
think i'll just go for the exams in WA and see what happens.

nice one.
lee.
