....or lived in an apartment with no south facing prospect or were prohibited by the landlord from erecting a dish ?
Not forgetting too that the iPlayer is as much a timeshift resource as a primary viewing one so there are many possible reasons for wanting/needing to use it

I would get my Butler to go down the Video Shop for a Big Fish, My maid would get the fun job. In fact I would have two Maids.
If I had a south facing apartment in Paris I suspect Cheap Spam would be the only thing for dinner.

Try out www.proxyplayer.co.uk
Pretty decent for the proxy but I think they have VPN too.
I usually just sign up for a few days when I want to watch some highlights or something.

Works like a dream and saved me 1/2 the old price. Nice one

My original post was on the basis that BBC, licence fee notwithstanding, is full of advertising and sponsorship. Isn't it time the Trustees recognised it cannot keep banning those who live abroad from access to iPlayer. That said the commercial channels also block access to their replay versions and they are wholly commercially funded. I assume, if they gave access, I would get the adverts, so can't see the issue about the ban.
The Humax approach seems the way to go, you can even edit ads out I hear. Will be finding out more on next trip to UK and spending the £200 or so for a box. If anyone has issues with Humax via Set dish linked Astra let me know soon, off next week for visit.
Heard a lot here about VPNs and seems a sledgehammer approach and needs funding.

Wow, 53,000 posts on this topic. I think I should mention it to the powers that beat the bbc... It's even got more replies than either Bad Jokes, or Gypsies in France. So it must be serious!

And just to add one more post, I've discovered that on the iPad I can watch UK TV channels (and US channels) free live on the website filmon.com from France. Haven't tried it on the laptop yet but works pretty well on the iPad and I watched rugby on BBC2 the other night on it. I read somewhere that the owner is British and is being sued by the US TV companies so sadly it may not be around for long.

Long-lived post/thread this. For reasons of domestic bliss I let go of the BBC2 highlights of the England V Samoa game. I did try and watch on-line, but there seems to be a registration process that wants to suck you in and no doubt wants to bombard your e-mail with stuff.
I shall try yoiur approach Herman via the laptop as don't have an iPad.
I now have a Humax which is very good, but is a deep learning curve. Also using only one satellite feed in (two is recommended from twin LNB) it does affect your watching/recording options. I do now have a lot of info via the Hummy site which is a Humax fans site.
