I saw this post the other day, and had exactly the same thought; Leffe Blonde (also Brune and Ruby) in 500ml cans for sure, but the bottles are always 330ml or 1000ml

That price however is very good - I just today restocked some 500ml cans from one of the big-three supermarkets here in Flanders, €15:89 for a six-pack, so €2.65 per 500ml.

We have a lot of micro brewers in Italy now that are making very good beer. ABInbev no doubt wants to get them killed off by selling beer below production cost. I suspect that the empty Leffe bottle alone costs more that €1.

One of the reasons that I switched from bottles to cans was the recycling angle. Leffe (Inbev) and myriad other breweries/distributors have a deposit per bottle, but it's a bit of a faff.

Every supermarket here has a conveyer belt bottle-reader recycling thingy, €0.10 credit per bottle, press STOP when you're done, take the ticket to the checkout and obtain the calculated reduction on your purchases total.

Which is great when it actually works, a pain when the machine spits a bottle or two back at you.
