Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

Bigot yes.

Racist? Perhaps so but in fairness I would say it was borderline.

The fact he didn't use the 'n' word proves nothing. One can be just as racist by ones attitude and body language...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

Agreed .. any racist remark is ill-advised.

But the question asked is was what was said racist? That is why I posed the question in the first place. I am always sceptical when I hear the word...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

What did the bartender say exactly?

The reason I ask is that what may seem racist to one person may indeed not be the case. Here the context, body language, and tone are important also so as to...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

Interesting comment in light of today's happenings

A massive police raid at three different Mohawk reserves in Quebec Wednesday morning netted $2.5 million in cash and a large firearms cache,...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

Just to be clear -- are you saying that younger people who claim to be missing out on getting jobs but are indifferent to the plight of the older crowd?

If I am correct, well I can tell you that...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

Jonboy ... your analogy was a good one and hit the mark. You are very eloquent and persuasive. Nevertheless, on principle, I find positive discimination irksome. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

I disagree. I have never seen the logic of favouring one person to the detriment of another? I have always been a proponent of 'let the best man win'. If I were handicapped I would like to know I...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

To continue ... the explanation I was given as to this 'ethnicity form' in the UK was that some little bureaucrat would do the rounds from time to time to ensure that people of different...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

Actually I think his accent is quite convincing especially when I think of what he really sounds like, English upper class.

Yes ageism is illegal but it is subtle, widely practised. How often in...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

It is hard to tell from your post whether it is not more a matter of ageism than anything else. I assume you are part of the over 50 crowd, thus 'good for the rubbish heap'.

I too am white and a...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

I find this thread so far interesting and predictably it deals with indians, natives, first nations, whatever the term.

But what of the newcomers, the ones that got off the boat more recently....

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

Yes I have seen lots of stuff on TV and in the print media. So I do not think all this stuff is being made up or is an outpouring of racism by Whites. But honestly it has never been of great interest...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

I can not speak of the criminal element because I do not know enough about it.

But, as a long time Montreal resident since 1962 I am well equipped to speak of OKA.

We left for Orlando the...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

I read your original post and noted it was factual. If there were any serious mistakes then people here will point them out. So far you have been met with stony silence. That in itself speaks volumes!

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

I do not think so.

Let's say the English, French and Spanish had never ever set foot in the Americas do you honestly believe this land mass, from arctic to the antarctic, would still be stuck in...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

I did not really want to get involved with this thread but I see no problem with what you have written. No falsehoods. Unlike many others at this forum I am much older and, while this doesn't make me...
