Land is not something you will get in Vancouver...lol... All the lots are small for the most part (there are pockets of old homes, well more like mansions that are 1 million+ that have larger lots)...

You can't really live on those wages, and in some city's it requires living in sub-par housing with multiple people such as I did in Vancouver since rent for an apartment was nearly my entire income...

As a night auditor depending on company anywhere from 11 to 13 per hour in Canada with the US being pretty close if you get into a corporate owned or managed property. But I have made as low as 9/hr...

More to do with being a military town more then anything, they have been doing it for most of their existence.

Anyhow the zoo is non-profit and it's a nice gesture.

If I recall correctly the only person who qualifies is the actual member of the military, not family and children but there are discounts available on base.

As for HH and animals sleeping, well...

If anyone is active military in the US military or a US reserve with active orders, the San Diego Zoo offers free admission year round.

Marketing people haven't attempted remembrance day sales in Canada yet, but other then schools, banks, government offices and the usual, nothing else closes down and pretty much a normal day here.

The holiday doesn't have the same meaning in the US as it does elsewhere, doesn't even have the same meaning really. Veterans Day is to honor all veterans more specifically those who are still...

I don't have an issue with it, why should children have to suffer because of their parents mistakes?
