Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

Did you do any digging here? Massey Hall has also recruited several other ex-politicos as quickly as they could after a demise.

The list includes Pierre Trudeau, Bob Rae and ..... Preston Manning....

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

I thought I'd followed quite closely, but when was Giles found naked in a whorehouse?

On the substantive part of your post, Quebec has a bit of history in wild swings between parties. One (not so)...

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

I'm quite sure that we can rely on Harper to do that.

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

As far as I can tell, it was more what didn't happen in Quebec. The Quebecois have (almost) always been on the left in recent times but they no longer buy into separatism and no longer see the point...

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

There are many ways to stay in power for a long time; moving to the centre is only one and the last one that would occur to Harper.

A lot of support for the NDP seems to have come from the young;...

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

I realize that you're being ironic. But Layton is utterly irrelevant. He can blow as much smoke as he likes, but Harper has a majority and absolutely no sense of moral responsibility. He'll do...

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

Quite possible.

In 4 years there will be no public funding of election campaigns.

The CBC will be privatized and sold to Rupert Murdoch at a knock down price.

Unions will have their...

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

Aren't we all?

I see there's been some speculation as to my reaction to yesterday's vote.

Briefly, profound depression.

A Harper majority government will, as I've said many a time, be a...

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

OK here's a hypothetical result on tuesday morning.

Cons: 134 seats
NDP :90 seats
Liberals: 66 seats
BQ: 20 seats.
Independents: 1 (what's her name with the big hair).

What happens next?

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

I believe it was you who correctly pointed out that the original intent was to parody Harper's bipolar positions surrounding the "coalition word".

The thread is/was about the election on Monday.

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

Important stuff.

Why don't you start a thread about it instead of trying to distract attention from the theme of this one?

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

I think so to. Prentice wouldn't be a bad choice.

General impressions to the contrary, I'm not rabidly anti-conservative, I'm just convinced that if Harper were ever to get a majority, political...

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

I don't much care whether the Liberals or the NDP are in second place.

What I care about is that according to that poll, Harper is at 34%. That's certainly not majority territory.

If Frank...

Excerpted from that article....

"He said the sudden rise in national support for the New Democrats is largely thanks to growth in Quebec and in British Columbia.

It’s difficult to predict how...

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

Evening to you too.

Like I said, just my read. In most places outside of Quebec I still suspect that folk will end up voting strategically. Jack may be increasingly popular (and the NDP is...

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

The NDP certainly seem to be making headway in Quebec but apparently at the expense of the BQ.

I've not seen an analysis of the national trend excluding Quebec, but it seems to me that the NDP...

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...

Springstein, or stien, or steen, I don't know.

If you think that Harper's vision of Canada's future is similar to the Liberal's view, you are the deluded one. Deluded by Harper to be specific.
