Re: American again, requesting relo ideas

That's where my ignorance of the process comes in - so would this (NHS ineligibility of a spouse) apply to a spouse who enters as a tourist, while they are waiting for a spouse visa to be approved?...

Re: American again, requesting relo ideas

Some text from the link to the archived document:

Re: American again, requesting relo ideas

It looks to me like "intend" is the key word here - in which case a spousal visa could be regarded as a step towards permanent residence (via ILR) and therefore one indicator of "intent" to reside...

Re: American again, requesting relo ideas

It wasn't disingenuous at all. I was merely illustrating that one shouldn't assume benefits are for citizens only. Most residents of the UK get free full NHS cover - to single out the few exceptions...

Re: American again, requesting relo ideas

I think this thread has been derailed for a while (if you consider how/why it started).

But regards my rant, I think it's somewhat analogous to the off-hand mixing up of "real" scroungers...

Re: American again, requesting relo ideas

Alternatively, why shouldn't people who have saved instead of squandered get the same benefits as those who squandered instead of saved?

Or put another way, why shouldn't people who paid into the...

Re: American again, requesting relo ideas

The problem with means testing is that it costs so much and probably doesn't recoup enough to make it worthwhile.

The problem with removing all old age benefits is that it penalises the less...

Re: American again, requesting relo ideas

There have been rumblings of means testing these and other "old age" benefits (winter fuel allowance, TV license).

Re: American again, requesting relo ideas

Just a separate note - in the UK, it's more difficult than the US to have a "yard dog" (i.e., leaving the dog out in the yard during parts of the day).

There are several reasons, but I found I...
