If you join Afpop they have excellent arrangements for health, home and car insurance. We have their medical insurance as they are one of few companies that will continue to cover you after 70 years....

Yes ! During your first five years you have a piece of paper which you need to preserve as best you can. It's called Centro de Saúde

I would apply for NHR status only in January 2018 . If you apply in December you will be registered for 2017 . One month's wait and you save a year.

Surely your Spanish cover will only apply if you are a tourist . If you move to Portugal and take up residence you will be removed from the Spanish system.

Depends a lot on local Town Hall interpretation of the rules. We applied for and received our Residence certificate a week after we took up residence but the Tavira Town Hall was happy to accept our...
