Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

But sitting idle, not operating, I expect?

Thanks for following up and reporting on this.

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

I don't think the site was chosen due to his opposition, but I don't know for sure. After all, he was objecting to the end so siting the wind farm where they did didn't help any in that regard. I...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

You didn't write:

Google is my friend, which is why I asked about a the third turbine when my Google search uncovered only two to be taken down.

No, you wrote the post I quoted on March...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

Can you point to where you gave any other reason?

This is what I wanted to know, thanks. From your earlier post I got the impression that all three were to be removed.

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

No, you didn't. What you did do was attribute the decision to remove them to "the cost of "buying out" protesters' homes ". It appears from the record that the decision was more far reaching than...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

Two of the wind turbines were owned and operated by the town of Falmouth, they were not a commercial venture. The town seems to have conducted a good investigation of alternatives for dealing with...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

Ground-source heat pump systems do not use "geothermal resources". They use the constant temperature of the earth, once below the frost line, something like 50F?, to be a source or sink for heat. ...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

Geothermal heat pumps are a consumer of energy, not a source of energy. But they consume less energy than electric, gas, or oil furnace for heating and less energy than electric or gas air...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

Wind power can definitely be a factor. The question is, how big a role can it play. For now and the foreseeable future, the answer is less of a role than some people are pushing for. Some...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

Agreed.

Just saying that in today's world, wind is not as helpful as many people would like to think. The wind tends to not blow when electricity is needed most, and to blow the most when...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

Can't be done without significant amounts of affordable energy storage devices. Electric supply must match electric demand instantaneously. Fossil-fuel generators are fully controlable, it can be...

When they cause to fossil-fueled generators, designed to operate near full rating, to back down to levels at which they become quite inefficient. Particularly if they have to stop generating...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

Highway safety is important, and it's not a good idea to make a road less safe than it could be. On the other hand, I currently commute on an interstate highway with east-west sections where I'm...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

I think we need to define what we mean by the word "near". There are regulations for how close a large wind turbine can be to a residence, and what's an acceptable distance is a debatable subject.

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

True.

True again. They can also be small - only a handful of turbines.

True again, although there are wind farms that have high voltage transmission lines running through them.

Agreed,...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

Yes, we are talking about essentially the same voltage for windfarm collector systems, and it does seem that the industry, in the US anyway, has standardized on that voltage level whether formally or...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

True, but Pulaski has a valid point. Where the wind blows, and it's economic to build wind turbines, is generally not where the people are who need the power that the wind turbines produce. High...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

The voltages you mention are very slightly different from what I'm familiar with.

I don't know what voltage a large wind turbine typically puts out, but each turbine will have a step-up...

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

The best winds are often along ridge lines.

Even in the generally flat midwest, the best places for the wind turbines are on the slightly elevated ares.

Re: Do you live near a wind farm? Would you?

Burying the low voltage distribution lines that serve single neighborhoods and individual homes doesn't incur as great a cost or reliability of service penalty as burying higher voltage distribution...
