A caution in the UK did appear on a criminal record though. Not sure if it still does. People would accept cautions without realising it appears on a criminal record.

Glad to hear that's over for you. Very stressful. Did he get a conviction in the end? I'd pay $10,000 in fines to avoid a record.

Yeah. I'd be ringing around and finding a lawyer who thinks they can get a Section 10 no conviction, then somehow get the money to pay. Sounds like its really low scale and a section 10 is possible.

OK true. Sounds like this one is just a court notice though.

Bail seems to be a mandatory thing in the UK, especially if they are trying to establish the facts in order to charge.

Bail? In Australia? That's a UK thing isn't it? In Australia you get a court notice I believe. Either way in both countries neither prevent you from travelling unless they take you passport if they...

It would not be a good idea to tell the employers. At this point the guy has only been charged. It may go no where. Innocent until proven guilty.

This guy put his brother in a coma. He got a 13 month suspended sentence. It doesn't say what the implications were for his visa as it looks like he was willing to go back to Ireland anyway.

Lawyers tend to give you worst case scenario. Best to try and look up similar previous cases and see what the result was.

Its hard to be positive when your future lies and in the hands of others...
