Don't have him come back into the USA without prior authorization. Have him apply for the K visa, if he is approved alls well that ends well. If he is denied you will need to file the I-601 waiver....

If you have overstayed your visa by more than a year - you will be able to leave with no problem. Don't expect any problems at the airport.

HOWEVER, you will be barred from returning to the USA...

tortoise is right! If you enter the country legally you can adjust status. However, if you overstay your allotted time by 6 months or 1 year, and then you leave, you will trigger a 3 - 10 year ban...
