I would go for Drummoyne/inner west over Panania etc anyday. Yes you get a bigger house but who would want to live out there? What's the point of relocating 12,000 miles to live in a dismal suburb...

We had a really similar hard time in our first year here. It does get better, believe me - I can't believe the things we put up with those first few weeks in Sydney.

Yes I would go for the North Shore short term rentals or motel if you are pushed. Somewhere like Manly would be great for kids of that age, more space to run around. Further west and you end up with...

I live near to Drummoyne and it's an OK area but has terrible traffic (yes, Victoria Rd) and little public transport. Like most of the inner west it is very densely packed housing with very few parks...
