Re: Long term let/rent in Abruzzo

Darren,
I have a two bed, one bath, flat with garden very near the beach in Silvi Marina (next door to Pescara) which I'm not using.

Let me know if you're interested.

Re: portable gas heaters

SO, my aircon, as opposed to heat pump, can also be used as a heater. Presumably units like this reverse the process when they are pumping heat from when they are cooling - yes?

No.!
A simple air...

Talking Re: portable gas heaters

An interesting comment and, unless you're a building services engineer - which I am - and know something I don't, also wrong.

Burning gas, whether LPG or natural gas, is inherently inefficient...

Re: portable gas heaters

Hi Cassius,
Well they're made by lots of people - mine are by Sanyo but Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG and Daewoo are a few of the manufacturers I remember.

They come in lots of sizes from...

Re: portable gas heaters

Don't use LPG heaters in a house, for the reasons Testarossa gave, and also because they're expensive and inefficient. For every 1 kilowatt of energy, in the form of LPG gas, you put in you'll get...

Abruzzo get together

After many attempts, and cancellations, we're finally going to visit our place in Silvi Marina the week after next (winding down after our daughter's wedding on the 20th).

As I've said here before...

Re: Hidden holiday-home tax situation

My two-pence worth.

I bought a holiday home in Abruzzo about 3-4 years ago. The reasons were twofold: firstly to 'test the water' - not for me: I love Italy, the country, people, food and way of...

Re: Any Brits Living In Abruzzo

Hello Clive & Beate,
I usually use Holiday Autos at the airport - they've got desk to the right as you come out of the arrivals hall. It's always better to book online though, as the prices for...

Hi, we've got a place in Silvi Marina and should be there in June. Don't know the exact dates yet (waiting for Ryanair) but will re-post nearer the time.

We bought our apartment in Silvi Marina, just north of Pescara about 3 - 4 years ago and use it for about 3/4 months every year. We spent a few months looking at websites before flying...

Re: Where would you learn Italian?

Jennifer,
There are no hard and fast rules regarding language learning. Some people do really well at night school language classes and some people (me) can't get the hang of it. I eventually used...

Cool Re: Any Brits Living In Abruzzo

I'm driving out from London to Pescara in March and I notice that there are several people on this site who yearn after English(?) food. As there will only be me and a few tools in the car I don't...

Wink Re: Moving to Italy with no commitments?

Overdriven,
Whilst all of the replies you've had so far are helpful, and recommend you learn the language, exercise caution etc, etc I would, if I were you, just go for it.

Re: driving in Italy, the definitive guide......

You forgot to add:-

When coming out of a side turning into a main road NEVER stop at the junction but always a few feet out into the road, so everyone (by which I mean tourists) think you're going...

Re: Building cost

Hi, Actor.
Building materials in Abruzzo are similar, if not slightly higher, than the UK. The secret, as in England, is to get a discount by chatting up the supplier and letting them know you'll be...
