Re: Toronto Rentals

Just wondering what studios or 1 bed units go for at CityPlace these days? Also, did you use a realtor or just ring around? Thanks.

Re: Toronto Rentals

Thanks again. I’m not so concerned about the moving in date as the best time to look for a vacancy. If tenants are required to hand in their notice at the beginning/end of the month, can I assume...

Re: Toronto Rentals

Thanks for the information. We’re not in a hurry so would prefer to look for a place at the optimal vacancy time. Perhaps visiting Toronto for a week or so.

So I take it, the last week in Sept...

Toronto Rentals

Just wondering if anyone has experience of looking for an apartment in Toronto and can advise as to when is the best time (of the month) to look? We’re thinking of flying over for a week and finding...

Re: Citizenship Question - your experiences

You're right - the process varies wildly depending on where you live. There's quite a bit about this in the "CIC Citizenship timelines" thread.

My Vancouver timeline was as follows:

Applied:...

Re: Passport Application

I guess it wouldn't hurt to wait another few days. Many thanks for all the replies!

Passport Application

Does anyone know if you can apply for a passport on the same day as your oath ceremony or do you have to wait a few days/weeks etc?

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

You're right, there's no point applying for a new PR card if the oath/PR dates more or less coincide. I'm sure there'd be no problem flying back to Canada as long as you've got some paperwork.

It...

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

I even phoned CIC to explain the imminent PR card expiry situation and was advised to apply for a new PR card. It's more cash for them, I suppose. The person I spoke to said they don't reveal your...

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

Did they tell you whether you passed or did you work it out for yourself?

There doesn't seem to be a valid reason for the CIC not to tell people the result of their test on the day (or if...

Re: Paralympics

Thanks for the tips.

Still, it seems a shame there isn't even a 5-minute segment of the day's highlights on TV. It's like they're not even happening.

Paralympics

Does anyone have any idea how to watch the Paralympics (in Canada) or is this an impossibility?

Had no idea it wouldn't be broadcast on CTV etc. Even the highlights will do!

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

Wow - thanks for this. Puts things more into perspective.

Best put away "Discover Canada" for a few more months, methinks.

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

Wish they'd transfer my application to Calgary (from Vancouver).

The system seems completely barmy to me. It would make more sense, and would be fairer, if the process was centralized.

Hang in...

Congratulations! It's been a long wait.

Vancouver seems to be slowing down, oddly enough.

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

Cheers for the advice re calling the centre. And did not know about the weekly Tuesday update. Thanks for that.

Just to clarify about the first point, I meant is the word "Processing" changed to...

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

Two questions for anyone who's gone through this process before:

1: Does anyone know if Processing is changed to Transferred to XX on the CIC website?

2: Is the notice to appear for test letter...

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

Just in case anyone in the Vancouver/BC area is interested, here's another timeline:

July 14, 2011
We received your application for Canadian citizenship (grant of citizenship).

August 16,...

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

Looks like the process takes roughly a year in Vancouver/BC, as opposed to 8 to 10 months in Alberta, Ontario and a few other places. Not fair, but hey ho. With any luck I should hear in just over a...

Good to know that processing starts fairly soon, thanks. Really don't fancy having to go down the PR card renewal route.

Re: Vancouver to Toronto advice welcome

Mountains we can live without, but a bit of water (or trees) would be nice.

Hadn't thought of using MLS - thanks for the tip.
