Thanks for the advice and...

Re: EAD card - production ordered

Thanks. That's what I wanted to hear. 7 days is great and hopefully means he won't lose his job (they're mega assholes there anyhow, I wouldn't mind if he didn't work there anymore - when my mum died...

Re: We're going for it ...

Do you know where you'll be working? If you're around midtown east, then you should consider Queens (Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens) - you could easily find...

Re: EAD card - production ordered

Unfortunately, this is the case for us.

We have to go through the US mission for things like this (visa renewals as well) and there is a special department in my organization which submits to the...

Re: EAD card - production ordered

Due to my visa status we can't submit the EAD renewal directly. We HAVE to go through the US mission and those are the rules regarding taxes (I didn't know they didn't apply to everyone). In fact,...

Re: EAD card - production ordered

We don't submit directly ourselves. I work for an international organization and they submit to the US mission to the organization who review it and then submit to USCIS. They're the ones who...

Re: EAD card - production ordered

Uh oh, then we're in trouble.

It's so frustrating. We wanted to submit ahead of time but had to show taxes for 2013 and the same place that won't let him back without the card was really slow at...

EAD card - production ordered

Does anyone know how long it takes for the EAD card to arrive once it's in 'card production ordered'. My husband's status changed to this on April 9th. He's an adjunct lecturer and his current EAD...

Re: Tanzania - We've been offered a relocation package....anyone any experience?

Haven't lived in Dar but visited and worked with expat colleagues who did live there. Everyone loves it! They seemed to have good social life and plenty of things to do, security issues didn't seem...

Re: Scariest places in the USA

Trenton NJ was a joy.

I went to the hospital there to have my second baby who decided to arrive at 2am on a Sunday morning. That was scary! At least it took my mind off the labour pains though :)

Re: anyone working for UN (HQ or agencies) in NYC?

You get a G visa, guessing that the UN in NYC is used to handling visas. I haven't actually been offered the job but once I made the short-list, I started thinking this might happen...

Re: anyone working for UN (HQ or agencies) in NYC?

Thanks Bob.

I was hoping to get some info on the UN specific package. It's all very complicated and I can't really make head or tail of it but it seems that they have a threshold of a certain...

Re: Lost in Japan

The reason I asked abotu where you'll be living is that you have to PROVE that you'll have somewhere to live. What they're scared about is that you'll land and declare yourself homeless or something...

Re: Lost in Japan

It's also OK if you intend to settle with your husband in the UK at the same time (that's my situation). You fill in the same application form although some of the questions are clearly aimed at...

Well, firstly the test isn't difficult. My husband knew the handbook on which the test is based inside out and had taken practice tests and aced them all - so it was pretty sure he was going to pass....

Re: second time around for settlement visa

Hi sarah,
Just wanted to add something, if that's OK. It may be a good idea for Omer to take a quick trip to the UK to take the Life in the UK Test. If he doesn't, you get a spouse visa and then,...

Re: Returnification... Back to the Green and Good lands of Blighty for me!

Make sure your wife does the Knowledge of Life in the UK test when she's in England. Also, save proof that you are co-residing and that your marriage is genuine and has been from the beginning. Then,...

Re: Life In USA experience last 8 years from UK quickie

Yes, but there's also a cultural tendency NOT to give in - which translates over into the medical culture as well. Death is almost seen as losing and for Americans, as we all know, the biggest insult...

Re: Life In USA experience last 8 years from UK quickie

Why do you have to pay your own health care for the first year? I've never heard of that. I thought that if you are normally resident in the UK, you're entitled to the NHS. We're moving back next...
