Yes, I heard all the "Stab City" chat before I came here but it seems from my experience living here that the violence is isolated to gang feuds in selected areas of the city.Maybe it was rougher...

Lots of Brazilians live in Gort as big meat processing factory there, maybe be worth doing internet searchs for work based on that
