The hubby and I are heading overseas on 23rd March (without the kids ).

Their passports need to be renewed in time for our family holiday in May - to be on the safe side I have booked an...

Re: Travelling back to the UK - how often do you go and what do you do with the kids?

Thanks all.

I have just resigned myself to going back with the youngest at some point next year. Trying to get to the UK with a 3, 6 and 9 year old on my own is a guaranteed one way ticket to the...

Travelling back to the UK - how often do you go and what do you do with the kids?

DH, 3 kids and I moved to Brisbane 18 months ago. Before that we had a 3 year stint in South Africa (DH is South African).

Now, I want to go back to the UK to see my Parents whom I have not seen...

Re: Advice on some suburbs please - Melbourne & Brisbane

We stayed out that way for a while (Kenmore side) and it was taking on average an hour to get into town each day (to be fair there were roadworks at the time).

Maybe the roadworks have improved...

Re: Advice on some suburbs please - Melbourne & Brisbane

Well then out of the listed suburbs in Brisbane you really need to consider moving closer as most of these suburbs will involve a commute longer than 40 mins each way:

Inala (I'd give it an 50-60...

Re: Advice on some suburbs please - Melbourne & Brisbane

How about different parts of Brissy.

Clayfield
Wooloowin
Nundah
Wavell Heights

There are plenty of rentals in these areas and they are all on good rail links and not too far from the CBD (I...

Re: Steer clear of Britannia Movers (Glasgow)

Having moved numerous times, I would be very surprised if the removalist hadn't informed the client of the likelihood of an AQIS inspection.

Moreover, I can't imagine that's it possible that...

Re: Steer clear of Britannia Movers (Glasgow)

To be honest, there is nothing in your post which would be considered unusual for any removal company.

AQIS and Customs fees are hardly the fault of the removal company.

We have used Britannia...

Smile Re: Anybody else dreading the summer (Brissy/QLD)?

I was astounded that our ex-fairly modern rental had no fans, air con, eaves, insulation, screens or energy saving light fittings. Come to think of, it had absolutely NO redeeming features at all...

Re: Anybody else dreading the summer (Brissy/QLD)?

:rofl::rofl:

I, on the other hand, do not complain about the cold. I thought it was a beautiful day today. I wore a singlet, skirt and thongs and have only just put on a sweater as it is the...

Re: Anybody else dreading the summer (Brissy/QLD)?

Of course I live voluntarily in Australia. As a matter of fact I absolutely love the place and wouldn't leave for the world.

This thread was intended to be slightly tongue in cheek. Lighten up...

Re: Anybody else dreading the summer (Brissy/QLD)?

The mozzies and midges I have encountered are totally oblivious to Garlic.

We do use mozzie spray, but I do worry that liberally applying poison to my skin 7 days a week will have some unsavoury...

Re: How many 'guest rooms' do you have?

With 3 kids, we are totally oversubscribed as it is. We have 3 bedrooms and one teeeeeeensy tiny mini room which our daughter uses for her bed. When guests come to stay the boys bunk in together.

Question Anybody else dreading the summer (Brissy/QLD)?

I love and adore Brisbane - it's an absolute keeper for us. Having said that I despise the summer.

Wouldn't move away for...

Re: 'Australia' worst film l've ever seen.

I actually switched Quantum of Solace off. I think the worst big budget production ever made was Waterworld (Kevin Costner).

Re: 'Australia' worst film l've ever seen.

Horses for courses. I enjoyed it. Reasonable story line, reasonable acting, reasonable cinematography.

Result = lightweight, fairly easy to watch movie with good entertainment factor. Certainly...

Re: How would one describe Brisbane?

b) Having spent a few years in South Africa, I find Brissy fairly cosmopolitan. I like the Barracks, the Emporium Complex and shopping in the CBD for Cafes and Shops. It's only downfall is the...
