Depends whether you used a agent or not and the communcition preference as per your application. I did my application without an agent and received an email notification of the visa grant in PDF...

Children on PR not being eligible for HECS-HELP when going to Uni springs to mind. Another 1 or 2 year wait makes quite a difference!
