Re: Exciting and inconvenient - application due to be processed early

Thanks for your thoughts. 2 to 3 years before moving lock, stock and barrel would be perfect. :)

Exciting and inconvenient - application due to be processed early

18 months earlier than the expected March 2010, I've been asked for an update to my application details of August 2006, which was one of the last of the old-style application process.

Incovenient?...

Re: Do I now have to go through this every time I come to Canada?

Thanks Jim. I know that you are right and I will just have to hope that they have understood for the future.

Do I now have to go through this every time I come to Canada?

I'm sat in the Sylvia Hotel lobby in Vancouver, recovering from a long UK flight with connections and then being sent to immigration.

When I handed over my passport, they said "you are an...

Re: What to do with my available funds?

Hi Mark - My thoughts too - only thing in my mind is how to balance three years rent against three years mortgage payment.

Thanks PMM - might look at a higher rate savings account or something...

What to do with my available funds?

AOR of last September and I was given £10k ($22k CAN) by my family for the required funds. They're sat in a basic saving account and I'm wondering how to get more out of the money while still being...

Any SIM card ideas for Greece to UK?

I'm going to visit my father in Greece for a few days (from UK) and am wondering about the best option for a Greek SIM card, rather using my O2 (UK) call plan.

Any advice would be appreciated.

e-CAS "diagrams"

I've finally gotten round to checking my e-cas and now that I've entered England as my country of birth, I've found my details!

On it, I have two application items.

One is the previous family...

Re: Finally Sent Application

I just received my AOR (pre-1st September). Took 18 days plus 5 in the post to arrive, but there is no comp slip that I am aware of.

The ball is rolling for you at the very least!

Another AOR: pre-1st September (+ LMO?)

Received the letter confirming 42 months to go.

I think the first thing that crossed my mind is, "does this mean that I have to stay single for 4 years?" :D

As I understand it, if the...

Re: Return of Full Landing Fee?

Thanks very much for the response. Probably explains why neither of us have heard anything back! :)

Return of Full Landing Fee?

I gave $1525 in fees to my ex-g/f and I think that I could be due a $950 refund after I turned down a family-class COPR in May - presuming that she gives it back to me of course.

Can anyone...

Re: HIV+ = Deported ??

Sounds like fate has dealt you a bum set of cards, but if you were honest at the time (especially as you can't really fake a blood test), this is one thing that should be unlikely to be a worry for...

Re: Temp work permit for self employed?

Hi Gareth,

I have always been self-employed as an osteopath in UK, but to work in Canada I had to become 'employed'. In MTL I worked from one clinic and in Van I was based from three, but part of...

Re: What happens if you get HRDC rejection

To my knowledge, no, as it has to be the local HRSDC office. I know of more people whom have had LMO problems at Vancouver rather than Montreal or Toronto. :)

Re: What happens if you get HRDC rejection

It's certainly nothing scientific, but if you want optimism, my experience has been that the further East you go, the more easy-going the bureaucrats can be!

Re: What happens if you get HRDC rejection

In theory HRSDC are supposed to help employers with their needs while making sure that Canadians are not just by-passed. I found HRSDC in Montreal to be very helpful with my employer, but HRSDC in...

Re: In Canada Common Law Processing Times?

As I understand it, EI for temporary workers is more of a "foreigner" tax if you are on a work permit.

If you lose your job or are not entited to work, you either get sent back home or are not...

Re: things to do in montreal

I really liked MTL, but I remember the 03/04 winter being particularly bitter and was reported so in the Gazette. In Jan 2004 I remember it at -32*C with a windchill of -49.8*C at 6pm on the way home...

Re: All ready to apply - final checks?

I finally received an email reply that my reference should be on its way next week... and would I like to consider a return under a work permit again? :)

Maybe it was worth waiting for after all!
