Re: Online money bank transfers in both direction.

I got HSBC accounts, UK & CA, with a view to transferring money regularly, but there is no difference than dealing with two separate banks, there is no reason for this to be a more beneficial...

Re: New Year's Eve in Montreal

I would say it depends on the area you're out in. You won't be short of venues but from what I recall there are additional cover charges for some restaurants on new year's eve. Crescent St. will be...

Re: Moving to Montreal

The Youth Employment Centre (yesmontreal.ca) is a good resource when for searching for English-speaking jobs in Montreal. You also have the Gazette, the local English paper (montrealgazette.com), and...

Re: Buying Real Estate in Montreal

My knowledge of real estate is limited, but $200K CAD won't get you a 2-bedroom flat in Old Montreal, certainly not any of the new builds/renovations. Other areas to try are Plateau, Mile End, McGill...

Re: Can we get a knowledge driving test done on Saturday??

Call them. They are back to regular opening hours now that the strike is ended, albeit temporarily. I exchanged my UK licence this week and could only do that Mon - Fri at their Sauve/Acadie office.

Re: Pictures for PR card at the port of entry

I'm sure it will be sorted out by them. They wrote to me a few weeks after landing to tell me that the photo I'd given them at port of entry wasn't correct and they made an appointment for me to have...

Re: need some advice

Like I said, if you have a hostile attitude toward Quebeckers then you'll find it difficult to settle in here... I tend not to get involved in the language debate, but I find the "One country, one...

Re: need some advice

I am English-speaking and have recently landed as a PR in Canada and live in Montreal. I have recently found an editing/administrative job that requires no French whatsoever. My husband also works in...

Re: Police Certificate question

CHC London were completely uninterested in PSNI police certificate for my application. They only wanted me to write to the Metropolitain Police in London for a national check. Unfortunately that...

Re: driving in Canada.

Just for the record, the SAAQ in Quebec are on strike at the moment so if you're heading this direction that might affect the answer. More details on www.saaq.qc.ca

I used a local company (Browns Removals) in Northern Ireland to ship my goods and they arrived here via Emery Worldwide. I shipped from Belfast to Toronto as Belfast to Montreal was almost twice the...

Re: Health Insurance

I've got insurance with Blue Cross (www.bluecross.ca) for about $4 per day. I'd be careful before you decide not to go with insurance. It will be cheaper than an unnecessary trip back to the UK. Some...

Re: Ubisoft hiring in Montreal and Quebec City

Administrative assistant. I used to work as a software developer back in the UK but I want to change direction. I don't fully meet the list of requirements but we'll see what happens!

Re: Any expates in/going to, Qu颥c?

From what I can see Mile End is quite young with lots of students and young families. There's a lot of trendy cafe/bar type places and lots of thrift and other interesting shops. Rent is more...

Re: Any expates in/going to, Qu颥c?

DDO is the suburb where Bourbon Street West is. I would have to say my favourite areas of MTL are the Plateau, Mile End and even the Old Port. There is a lot more diversity... people, culture and...

Re: Any expates in/going to, Québec?

I'm in Rosemont too at the moment. Quite like it round here and the rent is reasonable. It's key to be at most a block from the nearest JeanCoutu/Depanneur/greasy spoon/bus stop!
