Re: Dual Nationality Question

CPW, that's what I said, but didn't put it as succinctly as you. My question to JAJ was how would the Australian authorities know you had become naturalised or registered as a British citizen before...

Re: Dual Nationality Question

Jaj, as a matter of interest, how would the Aussie authorities find out you had become naturalised or registered as a British citizen before 4 April 2002, if you didn't tell them?

Re: Dual Nationality Question

Yes, used to be a problem and you had to make sure you didn't inform the Aussies, the Brits didn't/don't care, but nowadays it's fine, they've moved with the times!

Re: Update - New Citizenship Residence Requirement

Ahh, the above excerpt from the post of john_w raises the million dollar question again. That theme runs right through this thread. Is it when you are granted your PRV, when you activate it or when...

Re: Update - New Citizenship Residence Requirement

Hi Jane,
The consensus of opinion seems to be that it will be 26th January 2007.

Re: Update - New Citizenship Residence Requirement

In answer to your first paragraph..Yes it would seem so.
In answer to your second paragraph..that's a good question. Certainly you have to activate your PR visa within the given time and obviously,...

Re: Update - New Citizenship Residence Requirement

Thank you for correcting me, a RPV was, of course, what I meant, but having not yet had to apply for one I do not yet know what the term 'minor inconvenience' means and how much it costs! Can you...

Re: Update - New Citizenship Residence Requirement

I'm not sure about disadvantages, I can't immediately put my finger on any obvious ones, although I'm sure some will be able to. My main consideration is the likelihood of the inconvenience of...

Re: Update - New Citizenship Residence Requirement

I have no kids, but regardless, there are many issues that we should all be concerned about and having the vote is one way of expressing our views and possibly having an influence on how these are...

Re: Technically

As I understand it, in the past the Aussie's disapproved of dual citizenship so you had to keep it 'under your hat' so to speak. A few years ago they reviewed this and decided it was ok, although...

Re: foxtel........???

Thank you Tom Sawyer, I'm looking into it all. I have no doubt that in the very near future we'll all be able to view, within reason of course, everything we want. As long as I can watch my rugby...

Re: Obtaining an Australian Credit Card Prior to Taking Up Residency

Thank you for that Bosshogg, also HiFX.

I have checked out the Westpac website and it looks favourable. I should point out though, Bosshogg, that it seems there is a 6 week time limit to pick up...

Re: Update - New Citizenship Residence Requirement

Thanks JAJ, lets hope that a validated PR visa is good enough. I suppose it wouldn't matter that much waiting a further 2 years, but for reasons previously given I would aim to obtain citizenship...

Re: Obtaining an Australian Credit Card Prior to Taking Up Residency

Yeah, that sounds about right, I've always wondered about the Australian banking system. Who'd believe you have to pay to withdraw your own money from an ATM after a certain amount of monthly...

Re: foxtel........???

If there is any way whatsoever that I can get real sky in Oz, i.e. as shown in UK, I'd really like to know.

Unhappy Obtaining an Australian Credit Card Prior to Taking Up Residency

I have my PR visa and recently activated it and am now back in the UK in time for winter, unfortunately. I intend to move to Australia permanently in November 2007. In the meantime I am trying to...

Re: Update - New Citizenship Residence Requirement

Good luck to you Tracy. My situation depends upon quite what they mean by 'initial entry' If that means PR visa validation then that's OK, I've just done that. If it means actually taking up PR,...

Re: Update - New Citizenship Residence Requirement

I agree Pollyana. I have just validated my PR visa but unfortunately cannot move over permanently until November next year. I am hoping that the new rules will not extend my wait for citizenship,...

Re: Spouse Visa Applications

Bondipom,

Thanks for that, I was aware of the 5 year rule etc but as we were unlikely to move there pemanently for another 3 years I didn't want to find myself getting my residency and then...

Re: Spouse Visa Applications

Hi all,

I intend to apply shortly for a spouse visa to Australia, having been married for 8 years to an Aussie citizen, but resident in the UK. I am aware of the various procedures etc but I need...
